  1. Thanks for all the welcome posts. Really looking forward to puting my new Celestron 114EQ to good use.
  2. Wow I followed that guide and i thought i did a pretty good job ! The only thing i have done different is rotate the tube a little more to allow ground based object to be the right way up. I cant see what else is wrong
  3. Photos were taken before I balanced it but to be honest there is little difference in the set up now. Just waiting to get started now with some decent cloud free skys.
  4. Just ordered a barlow and on checking the scope it appears to have been assembled incorrectly so going to start again then use the excellent guide. Thanks for the advice guys so far.
  5. So are the lens' used in this scope 1.25" ? Gonna try it out tomorrow night so fingers crossd for a clear sky.
  6. After a little set back I got offered this a very good price, a Celestron Astromaster 114EQ. It came with 2 eye pieces both Celestron branded - 20mm erecting eyepiece and a 10mm. Am I right in thinking the erecting eyepiece allows me to view land based objects the right way up and its not a barlow so can you guys recommend a sensibly priced barlow and some moon filters to go with it ? Finally, reading the instructions, seems to me to be set up incorrectly so I will reassemble it but cant get my head around balancing the scope. Well pleased with it so far.
  7. I received my Strathspey 10x50 today. Not not used them at night yet but its fair to say they are of excellent quality. Very sharp with good focus. I think £44.99 delivered is a superb price for these high quality bins.
  8. Greetings from a fellow Kent user.
  9. Hi, OK I am taking your advice and maybe looking at a Skywatcher 130 or 150 but cant stretch to a 200 at this time. Undecided on a goto set up though. A
  10. Hi, I reside in sunny Maidstone
  11. Must have been a mix up as there was no one there, so we drove to Cranbrook where the school were hosting a small meeting. A really good meet (my first) and it has certainly fuelled both my interest and that of my 18 year old son !
  12. Gonna take a trip down to this tonight with my son. Fingers crossed for a clear night.
  13. Great replies there guys. I had a look at both Celestrons today and boy were they big - much bigger than I expected ! It looks like I will be sticking to a £150 budget for now though. Also gonna have a look at what local groups are around too.
  14. I am a newby and based in Maidstone so I would love to to be involved when I get my telescope soon.
