It's surprising from these pictures just how much difference in size the extra 7-8 mm in aperture makes from 120mm to 127mm for scopes of the same focal ratio

I might finally get around to buying the 10mm and completing my set
-
The "blue" is just the paint colour Skywatcher originally made the scope in.
They've freshened up and rebadged their scopes by giving them a new lick of paint 2 or 3 times over the last 20 years or so without changing too much (anything!) optically
-
No, mine is the older, blue model. I'm not sure but I'd guess the screw bolts on the rings could cope with an extra 3mm diameter

The 140mm Skywatcher rings are a perfect fit on my blue 127mm Mak

I too have a Skymax 180 and have had it completely apart on several occasions (see here) The dovetail attachment is very solid, and there is no discernible sag in use.

Edit: just found the answer while reading through the full (and very informative/ thread 👍
That's a great read. Did you happen to measure the height of the primary baffle from the mirror or backplate? I stripped and measured my gold 180mm a couple of years ago (nowhere near as exhaustively as you have) and would be interested to see how that measurement compares as all the other optically important ones seem to match up

I've had mine for 15 years or so now on an HEQ5 mount with no problems

Can SkySafari be set to green instead of red for night time viewing. The eye is less sensitive to red than green, so if using green the screen brightness can be turned down.
Yes, it can

Love my Tecnosky 125. A great visual scope that has given me the best solar white light views I have ever had. Great lunar views as well. Looking forward to when Jupiter and Saturn are higher up this summer. An excellent all round scope.
Better optics than the SW120 with noticeably sharper views and better contrast.
Should be fine on the Skytee. I did replace the stock dovetail with a longer Losmandy one.
Thought about the 102 but in the end decided I would always regret not going for more aperture.
Please don't take this the wrong way, John but have you EVER bought a telescope that wasnt "noticeably better" than its Skywatcher equivalent? 🤣😜

Although most popular 150mm achros are f8, f10 isn't particularly slow for a 6 inch refractor. You're going to see a fair bit of CA in that scope even if it's a well figured lens
-
If you're observing in the UK then Jupiter and especially Saturn are placed too low for the Mak to really show it's stuff
-
I've got to admit, Mark. I had a 8 inch LX90 SCT years ago and was never particularly impressed with the planetary views it put up

I've found similar (on a smaller scale) when comparing my 7 inch Mak with my ED120 on the planets. Unless conditions are poor the Mak always shows more, I've never bought into that "a 4 - 5 inch apo I will show you all the detail you can see on most nights in the UK" line.

I initially had similar trouble when I first used my binos. What worked for me was trying different eye positions/ distances and relaxing at the eyepieces. I know this advice is a bit vague and not terribly helpful, apologies!

I like the look of this. I've been tempted by the 100 but it's overkill (both financially and weight capacity wise) for my ED120. The lack of slo mo is a bit of a downer as I've always found them handy on undriven mounts

I've got all the UO volcano orthos from 4 to 12.5, they really are exceptional eyepieces.

A Crayford adds a fair bit of weight to the setup. I found it useful when I was imaging with my 180 Mak/ HEQ5 setup but not visually

I took delivery of a turret this week and got to try it out last night. The clicks are very distinct and firm but seem to rely on 2 very small bumps/ notches in the plastic that would only need to be slightly "off" size at manufactur to affect the click action

Mounting a pair of 25x100 bins is a bit of a drama, not really grab and go

With that budget I'd go for a 4 inch for doublet for visual, it's fairly big step up from a 3 inch but is still pretty easy to set up and mount

Just picked up a pair from Lidl. They look decent enough and are in collimation.

Wasn't there a company selling ED glass upgrade cells a few years ago? I can't remember the specifics other than that it particularly tempting from financial point of view

Carl, I do the same thing with the diagonal when moving my AZ4 about. It's a terrible habit that will end up with something being off axis but it's so hard to avoid. I don't like using the handle as it doesn't feel natural when you're looking through the eyepiece

I was lucky my local vendor split the rings and dovetail so I only purchased the rings as I already had a nice dovetail the Delos are nice the Ethos in my opinion not worth there price now even second hand there nearly £500 a piece that more than some Sellars paid for them I’ve got the 13mm nice it is but not a massive jump from the 14mm Delos it upgraded I have the Myriad 100° 20-9-5-3.5mm and I think there almost as good as the ethos
I've owned various sizes/ combinations of Ethos, Myriad, APM and ES 100 Deg eyepieces and there's not a huge difference in between any of them IMHO.

4" F/10 achromat with focal reductor

Thanks for the info, Vlad. Very interesting
I've got an ED100 that I cut down to use as a PST mod. I've been wondering for years whether it would be usable with a focal reducer as an f6 ish scope for visual use.
Unfortunately that model reducer linked above is a little rich for my blood for what would be "fun" project.
