  1. If you”re doing something active a few degrees below zero is nothing but just standing around not so pleasant. Coldest I’ve ever experienced was -40 and with windchill felt like -70. Redefines what you think of as being cold. 🙀
  2. Yes I had a Solar Scout 60DS for a while and also used to have a Lunt 60. Found the Lunt better for visual. The Daystar never showed much detail visually but was good for imaging.
  3. R F Royce’s classic article on Strehl is well worth a read. http://www.rfroyce.com/standards.htm
  4. History Channel - Atacama Large Millimeter Array Mega Transports - Chile Episode repeated several times this Wed. Interesting episode in the Mega Transports series about the challenges of moving the antennas of the Atacama Large Millimeter Array.
  5. Markus certainly knows his stuff in optical design. Few years ago ordered a scope from him and he phoned me to discus the purchase and to explain the options. Very helpful. 👍🏻
  6. Although it is 0.75 pitch not 1mm think it should thread on. The skywatcher drawtube thread is a bit sloppy I think.
  7. Would this do? I 5hink the drawtube is threaded M56. https://www.ebay.com/itm/M56x0-75-female-to-SCT-male-thread-adapter/254148351542?hash=item3b2c6c1636:g:9WsAAOSwm1Vce6yB
  8. A flat earther would call it poor cgi. 😁😂🤪
  9. Wonder what flat earthers make of this lunar transit video. 🤔
  10. Think everyone who has used a Heritage 130p has liked it. Simple but effective.
  11. I remember someone else asking TS about it and TS telling them it was OK to fit just an ND3 filter. So just ask TS for conformation.
  12. Astroshop doesn’t know what they are talking about or misunderstood your question. Contact TS directly and they will tell you it is fine to replace the combined filter with an ND3 filter https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p9409_TS-Optics-1-25--Solar-Prism-with-Polarizing-and-Narrowband-Filter.html
  13. I have the TS Optics 8” version and have been very impressed with it. A big srep up in performance compared to my old Skymax180..A great advantage over a mak or SCT is the lack of dew problems and faster cooldown.
  14. Did some research and found it is probably that the anodised surface has not been sealed properly. Copper is used in the anodising process and if the surface is not properly sealed the black can turn a bronze colour due to the copper bleeding through the black finish. UV can speed up the process as well. All my finders have aluminum parts on the front ends so would expect those “gold” parts on the finder are auminium not plastic.
  15. The aluminium black anodised carry handle on a scope that had been stored on top of a wardrobe turned gold. Also the body of a eyepiece in the finder turned gold as well. The scope never saw sunlight as it only went out at night so not UV.
  16. Have you collimated the scope? During shipping most SCTs get knocked out of collimation.
  17. The Skwatcher dielectric 2” diagonal isn’t the best but still a reasonable performer. A WO or a Revaltion quartz will nave a bit more contrast though.
  18. Doesn’t really matter. The 1.25” is lighter and has a shorter light path than the 2”. With an ED80 though would just use the 2” that you have.
  19. iMore ammunition in the fight to convince councillors that they need to reduce lighting. 👍🏻
  20. And on this online edition of the Daily Mail https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7715309/Light-pollution-driving-INSECT-APOCALYPSE-scientists-claim.html
  21. How to weld galvanised steel https://www.metalsupermarkets.co.uk/welding-galvanised-steel/
  22. Wex Photograhic normaly has the best price on the Pentax XF zoom. https://www.wexphotovideo.com/pentax-xf-65-195mm-zoom-eyepiece-1529787/
  23. A 14MP microscope camera with 0.5x reducer for microscope use and a 1.25” nosepiece for astro use. Should be OK for lunar imaging. Uses a micro SD card for image capture and has a remote. Resolution is much higher for images captured to the card than with the hdmi output.
