  1. Or just get a bluetooth remote shutter release for your phone. A whole £3.99. 👍🏻 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ailun-Bluetooth-Smartphone-Compatible-Included-Black/dp/B06XD9GZ3T/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=bluetooth+smartphone+shutter&qid=1581201037&sr=8-5
  2. Great job. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 And your next build is..............🤔
  3. Yes as I mrntioned if the item is on their prohibited list then you won’t be able to ship it in the first place. Also if you have declared glass and they accept payment for the insurance then they have accepted liability. The tricky bit is if you have declared an item but not mentioned it contains glass they could refuse compensation. The devil is in the detail.
  4. By accepting payment for loss insurance and knowing the declared contents and if it isn’t on their prohibited list they then can’t refuse to pay out in case of loss. If the item is on their prohibted items list they no they wouldn’t have to pay out in case of loss. It’s all in the details of their terms and conditions which I believe are often intentionaly obtuse and misleading. Have heard of custmers digging their heels in and by refusing to be fobbed off the courier eventualy caves in.
  5. If anyone wanted to take them to court over them not paying for a lost package the courier would soon find out that as they had entered into a contract with the shipper to deliver a package they would be in breach of contract by not paying out on an insured package which takes precedence over any of their rules. Thry are probably expecting that no one would take them to court though.
  6. There is a moon up there...…………...somewhere.
  7. Went to book a shipment of a scope by DPD this aft only to find that DPD now lists telescopes as prohibited items. Wonder if it’s one rule for private shippers and another for commercial accounts.,🤔 Anyway now booked by ParcelFarce 24.
  8. Had a Baader Neodynum 2” filter with a badly damaged filter cell (had welded itself to a diag) and as these filters are now over 100 quid decided to put the Baader filter in a new cell. The Baader replacement cells are overpriced to looked around for a cheap 2” filter and found a Gosky Moon & Skyglow filter on Amazon for about 20 quid delivered. Geting the Baader filter out of the damaged cell was a problem as the locking ring wouldn’t unscrew so out with the snips and cut the cell apart. 😬Releived that the filter was undamaged and now a simple job to put it into the Gosky cell. 🙂 Baader filter in the Gosky cell and remails of the old cell and the loose Gosky filter.
  9. Test fitted the Celestron unit and find it is fairly solid except that the clamp on the eyepiece can wiggle a little bit. One of the clamp jaws is just hard plastic and the other jaw has a paper thin bit of not very grippy hard rubber. Doesn’t grip the smooth metal body of the eyepiece very well. Have ordered some 1mm thick self adhesive rubber sheet to line the jaws of the clamp with which should sort things out. 🤞🏻
  10. No problem. Just get out the angle grinder and grind some off. 😁😁😁
  11. Had the Altair phone holder and sold it on a few weeks later. It was merely OK and very plasticy. Came in a generic Chinese box with a little Altair label stuck on one end. Just been looking at the Celestron one and it too is very plasticy but has far better adjustments. Had to tighten up s couple of screws on the vertical adjustment to stop it from tilting. I’m going to order some 1mm thick self adhesive rubber sheet to line the clamp jaws with to give them better grip.
  12. Yes that’s right. Fit the 2” extender in the focuser and then put the 1.25” adapter into the 2” extender. 👍🏻
  13. Quick release arrived for the red dot finder.. The finder can now be fitted or removed in a second or two. 👍🏻
  14. Couple more bits. This time from Amazon. New smartphone adapter and a quick release for the red dot finder on the new scope.🙂
  15. Yes the 410 head is fine with a shorter and lighter scope but I imagine it would indeed shake a lot with the ED100 on it. The 405 head will carry 7.5kg but I removed the centre section to make it an Alt-Az mount so it shoild carry a bit more. Unfortunately the 405 heads are silly money new now. Over 500 quid. 🙀 There is a couple of seconds minor vibration while focusing but no big deal. The pics on the previous page were taken using the photo mount. The AZ4:seems to work OK with the ED100. OTA is about the same weight but a bit shorter but build quality is in the WO class so is more heavily built. OTA without finder or diagonal weighs 4.6kg (10.14lbs) and is 800mm (31.5”) long with the dewshield extended and 670mm (27.5”) with it retracted. That’s without diagonal fitted. Here it is with a Lyra 102 f11. Just about usable.
  16. You can get one of these extenstion tubes although there are cheaper equivelents. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/adapters/moonlite-15-focus-extension-tube.html Cheap but will do the job. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gosky-Astronomical-Telescope-Eyepiece-Extension/dp/B07CSPN8R1/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=2”+eyepiece+extension+adapter&qid=1581095064&sr=8-6
  17. A Primaluce finder shoe with a curved base arrived and fits much better than the standard type shoe which is flat with little “legs”. Did have to drill a little dimple in the back to clear an adjusting screw in the focuser but a simple little job. A Lunt 2” eyepiece to T2 adapter arrived to be fitted to the Baader prism. This will allow me to use the twist lock 1,25” eyepiece adapter that came with the scope. Needed a Baader 7.5mm T2 extension ring as the flange on the back of the 2” nosepiece stopped the Lunt adapter from screwing all the way down. Decided to keep the 9x50 finder but changed the bracket to an old WO 7x50 one. The rings are only a few mm bigger than the finder so a close fit but still give an adequate range of adjustment. There are a couple of nylon grub screws in the mounting flange on the back of the OTA that can be removed to mount a finder shoe on the tube.
  18. That was from the Astro Classified Rules bit in the sales section. Maybe the mods need to update that. 🤔

  20. Telescope Express does all kindsof tube rings including custom sizes. https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/index.php/language/en/cat/c266_Rohrschellen.html The OO rolled tube rings are about £50.00 or £60.00 I think.
  21. The self centering twist lock clamps on the StellaMira 80mm f/10 focuser are pretty good. The clamping arrangement inside the drawtube seemed a little odd at first with the two black compression bands and the central gold band instead of one wide band? I realised that by using two bands that are compressed by the taper inside the gold band one of the black bands can be squeezed down to a smaller diameter than the other thus allowing for the taper or undercut of a nosepiece. You can see in the two photos of the bands that one ring can tighten more than the other on a tapered nosepiece. The 1.25” eyepiece adaptor also has a 20mm wide clamping band which will clamp pretty well any eyepiece barrel undercuts. Bands on a tapered nosepiece with no pressure. Bands when pressure applied. 1.25” adapter.
  22. I think more the eyepiece used. Do need to sort out something with more mag to use. Pity the smartphone adapter won’t fit the 4.5mm Morpheous. 🙁 Have removed the tint from the pics now.
