  1. My best ever white light views have been with the Tecnosky 125 APO and Lacerta wedge. Used to have a Baader Cool Wedge but used on a smaller scope and while it gave good views my latest setup is better. Think the combination of wedge and scope is the key.

Also used the Lacerta on an Orion 120mm f/5 (same as SW) and wasn’t that impressed.

You would think so Martyn. But No Virgo actually. Perfectionists apparently. Don't tell the science crowd.

    Cheers

    Another Virgo. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  3. More or less agree although not completely. The scope is a lunar planetary scope anyway. Also fitting the Baader Steeltrack means not having to add or remove the extenstions which I agree is a pain.

Wouldn’t be my only scope but as Ed says would appeal to those with a scope collectiom where it would fill a niche very well.

Should also be noted that the C6 is a bit variable in optical quality. Ranges for so-so to excellent.

  4. Basically the wedge will give sharper images than any front mounted filter. The Baader film is the best film and better than any currently available glass filter I’ve found.

You may have noticed that many with an HA scope also use a wedge for white light. They compliment each other. The wedge may only be white light but I prefer it for sunspots. And much simpler than tuning as with an Ha scope. Rotating the polarising filter on the wedge allows adjusting the brightness and is a usefull option.

I have the Lacerta wedge and find it gives very similar results to the the Baader cool wedge. Just a step better than the basic Lunt wedge. Given the height of the sun in the UK find no problem with the Brewster angle.

  5. As the Lunt is American made they have safely messages that are a bit  unneeded. Just the American way. Warm surface would be more accurate. Might be uncomfortable to hold your finger there for a long while.

Perfectly safe for imaging although additional filters would be used. Read about this here in the product discription. Wedge itself is identical though.

”Baader offers two versions of their Herschel Wedge:

    Visual V

The Version-V for visual use comes with a pre-installed ND=3.0 (required for safe viewing) filter and a 2" Continuum Filter.

    Photographic P

The Version-P for photographic use is essentially the Version-V with three additional Baader ND filters (ND1.8, ND0.9 and ND0.6). The additional filters are handy for further dimming the image for white light viewing, or attaching to eyepieces or a T2-15 Reducer, and are particularly useful for imaging.”
