  1. Very well done there, I am jealous of an observatory Looking forward to seeing your final version, will it be processed as the Hubble palette?
  2. Wow that really was a productive night. A fine set of images you have there
  3. Great M31, you sure that is a single sub Shows the power of great skies!
  4. I would also suggest going here: IP4AP - Online Visual Learning - THANK YOU! These tutorials are not free, however they are worth the money! I feel my processing stepped up a level or two after going through these
  5. I get this when imaging certain parts of the sky from home. It is a light leak. Do you have any street lamps in that direction. They dont even have to be that close, a small amount of light can cause big problems. Or if the light is from 'behind' you should block up the viewfinder.
  6. Looks great to see all those DSOs in the context of the stars we see when looking up.
  7. Nice image If you use DSS to stack, then do this: After clicking 'Stack checked pictures' in DSS, click recommended settings. In that section you can scroll down and ensure you use the option that says: "If the colour balance in the resulting image is hard to fix......."
  8. If you cant see Polaris maybe you should take your scope to a darker site. I cant imagine the views would be that good in such a light polluted area.
  9. My laptop has died and I am awaiting a new battery. That will pretty much guarantee beautiful clear skies in my area

    binning

Yes, but you have it back to front. You should shoot the Ha 1x1 and if you are going to bin then you should do so with the weaker OIII.
  11. Great job! It is the same for me too, it is the HH that got me into this hobby. BUT I still have not imaged it yet Its out of sight from my home, but now I travel to image I will definitely get it this year!!
  12. Has to be this one: QHY Cooled CCD Cameras - QHY9 QHY8 QHY6 QHY6 Pro QHY5 QHY2 Pro Exclusively @ Modern Astronomy £1200, but worth stretching the budget for.
  13. Yeah its an amazing image. I saw this posted on Cloudy Nights: Telescope Reviews: Orion's belt... and more! Here is an earlier post too with more details: Telescope Reviews: Orion's belt, from CalStar This guy is an amazing imager!
  14. I use Neb when I dont want to restack, or playing with someone elses image etc. Click IMAGE > ADJUST COLOUR BACKGROUND (OFFSET)
  15. Was gonna say the same Very well done indeed!
  16. This fixes the balance perfect for me while stacking in DSS: After clicking 'Stack checked pictures' in DSS, click recommended settings. In that section you can scroll down and ensure you use the option that says: "If the colour balance in the resulting image is hard to fix......." If I have to colour balance after DSS, I use a function in Nebulosity. I find it easier to have it done for me, rather than trying by eye!
  17. Great result! Dark skies really do make a massive difference.
  18. Hi Jordan Its an EQ6. I dont have quite enough weight on to balance fully. It needs just a touch more really. However sometimes the guiding is fine, so I dont think that is the cause. Could be though!
  19. Thanks Steve. Not really sure what to do to fix it. Sometimes my stars are really good, other times really bad. Setting up on each session, I never know what to expect
  20. Random blobby stars, also the image moves across the frame quite a lot over the course of 6 hours or so.
  21. Here are the files: PHD_log_24Sep09.txt PHD_log_25Sep09.txt
  22. Hi Recently my guiding seems a bit pants, and my 15 minute exposures are not particularly good. Trouble is I have to set up and dismantle every session. When I set up I try to get everything as tight as possible and my polar alignment as accurate as I can. I have started saving my PHD logs, but I really dont know what I am looking at, or how it can perhaps provide info as to what my issues are. Can any of you guys take a look please and give me some pointers as to what to look out for, and also does the log give any clues as to the problems? Cheers Arran
  23. I also use DSS to fix the colour balance, here is how: After clicking 'Stack checked pictures' in DSS, click recommended settings. In that section you can scroll down and ensure you use the option that says: "If the colour balance in the resulting image is hard to fix......."
  24. I saw this the other day. Probably the greatest astro image I have ever seen!
