In a dark sky the filaments of this nebula appears to shimmer....it can also be seen without an OIII filter if you know where to look (Meaning find it with the filter, then remove it).
And I will be observing this again next weekend at Pencelli 😉

Yes thats it but it doesnt look like the image much to my eyes.
Ahhh...not just me then...or Steve or Damian....the amount of depth and intricate detail which with splinters forming an almost 3d image that photographs can't portray is one of the best things about using a big mirror in dark skies....I really struggle to find a better target in the night sky when conditions are right...great report mate.

Remember it's all about the quality of your dark skies....

I would think its very possible with a 10" in dark skies..think I caught it with the 21 ethos the cranked up to the 13 ethos which give me 157x magnification in the 18"

Nice report....yes seen the pillars clearly from Elan valley, two fingers were observed, the third is impossible visually...but I may be wrong!.

Always great to support SWSP, warm welcome, great relaxing atmosphere in good company and a great campsite in dark skies.

You will have to have good all round conditions for H55 separation but that 20" will enable you to do it.

Glad I've seen this as I didn't know you had to warm it up before switching off.
In Autorun, there's a slider to shutdown asiair and return to home after imaging run, I used it a couple times and thought it was great but surely that's not going through a warm up procedure? Or is it? Ive never been awake at that point to see for myself.
Nice to hear from you...hope you're well mate

Hey estwing, been looking at a cottage on the Isle of Skye, was thinking November, possibly after Galloway get together but what’s the weather like at that time of year??.....I believe it can be brutal.....I know you love it there
Out of the three weeks we spent there I think we had 3 and a half clear nights. Mid October proved to be the luckiest mid November the wetter....Nick says October tends to be dryer...its just pot luck up there!

Fantastic Gerry...I have certainly caught 3 with fleeting glimpses of a fourth in my 18" but the transparency was at it's best...but then again it was easier in @mapstar22"

Fully understandably Derek...as stated we were lucky to have had the autumn gathering when it was reasonable calm...but this situation is a whole new ball game...stay safe everyone and let's look forward to everyone's company in autumn...Calvin.

The highest power ethos I have is the 8mm so it made sense for me to have one...but as the photo shows the baseball bat effect doesn't look sensible!
