  1. ..and at the end of the day that is what matters Pete
  2. Superb, I love the distant galaxy clusters and can never see enough of them. They make us feel very small. I may give this a go too. They need a ton of data to make them work. Shameless plug of my own post too, if you don't mind:
  3. It's really nice and I love the detail in the dust lanes, especially on the far side of the galaxy. The stars look a bit odd though, like you used too much deconvolution perhaps? Just my eye though, others may disagree. All the same, love it. Bravo.
  4. Yes it needs a lot. It does not achieve a very high altitude in UK although not bad. It is also quite small.
  5. Not heard of that. I used deconvolution in PixInsight and a bit of sharpening on what is quite a clean data set. I always remember the golden rule - less is more when it comes to using these sharpening/decon tools or you can overdo things. A good data set hardly requires any processing.
  6. Data set I forgot I had. Been away from astro for a while but been practising my processing on this data set. TEC140.
  7. May I ask what happened to Gina? If not appropriate to discuss then ignore my ask. I'm so sad to hear she died. She was so kind to me and we exchanged many PMs over the years, especially when my wife had cancer and subsequently passed away. Gina will be greatly missed. As I said earlier, I've had a lot of personal problems with my daughter this year and have not been on SGL so much and as such I missed the news of the very sad passing away of Gina 😰♥️
  8. I'm not on SGL so much these last few months but I'm so sad to hear that Gina has passed away. 😱. Golly I am so sad to hear that, she was so lovely.
  9. I'm from the measure ten times and cut once school of thought.
  10. Glass + Concrete = Expensive problem 🫢 Glad no permanent damage done. Be more careful in the future!
  11. Very important to use previews before doing an image integration so that you know that he stacking method and its settings work. Otherwise you can waste hours doing the full integration only to find satellite trails etc. PixInsight can use as many PC resources as you can throw at it. The faster CPU and more memory the better. For quick "checking' then a low spec laptop is fine - I've used an old Celeron laptop with 2Gig of memory for this. However, for the integration of hundreds of large CMOS images (which can be over 100Meg for each sub) you need something with a beefier specification. It can take my i9900K/SSD//64Gig RAM tower machine two hours at 100% CPU to crunch through an integration of 300 images from my 2600C sensor.
  12. I 100% agree. It is a superb sensor. It sounds like you have money burning a hole in your pocket Iain. Use the superb cameras that you already have would be my advice here.
  13. Exactly. We can't meaningfully communicate with highly intelligent animals with whom we share the same planet, within the same environment, with the same chemistry, let alone aliens. I don't buy this argument when looking at vast galaxy superclusters that the universe is so vast that we simply can't be alone. Yes, we can be. Google and read about "the fateful encounter hypothesis" https://googlethatforyou.com?q=the fateful encounter hypothesis
  14. The bottom line is we simply don't know. I think if they were indeed out there we would have heard from them. We haven't so they probably do not exist or do not exist in the timeframes of speed of light versus their distance from us for us to hear them now.
  15. Well done Geof, I really like it.
  16. Another NINA convert after moving from SGP a few years ago. SGP had its time but it is too crash prone and NINA has left it miles behind with its plugin architecture. A shame for SGP and I feel a bit sorry for the two guys who develop it because they did try their best. However, they will never be able to compete with hundreds of contributors (myself included) who contribute to NINA's open architecture and make it free.
  17. The 14" Meade is a monstrous instrument, almost as big as one of the 1970's rubbish bins. In a dark sky they are magnificent. I had one of them and it was a great scope but my Bortle 4/5 skies do not do it justice and so I sold it. They are too big and heavy for regular mounting/demounting.
  18. Martin, definitely migrate to NINA mate. I did so last year and it is head and shoulders better than SGP. It only takes a few nights to get used to it and there are a ton of YouTube videos on it. Check out Chad and Patriot Astro on YouTube.
  19. The darks, flat darks and the flats (all three file types) must be at the same *everything* as the lights or else you will get these lines. I have also found the USB3 cable is crucial as well. Use a high quality one.
  20. Well done. It is a fabulous area.
  21. Lovely What's the other famous illusion that depends on the illumination? A city with a germanic kind of name I recall ???
  22. +1 I sold my 14" SCT since my skies are not dark enough to do it justice and for the little planetary and lunar work I do the [much] more manageable C925 is almost as good. Shame really but we have to confront reality.
  23. I use a Moravian G2-8300 with NINA. A brilliant camera. I use mine with the FSQ85 and its reducer to give a very wide field.
