Mark at Beaufort

Very nice Paul. I just been looking at the Sun with the PST+DS and the 90mm frac with solar filter + Continuum filter.

The amount of solar activity is amazing as your photo shows. 

Very nice photos of the Sun today. I particularly liked the close up.

I am thinking of getting one. However, I will wait for a while to see how it goes. 

Viewing Jupiter with the 6" Newt and the Nagler 3 -6mm zoom. Difficulty seeing the moons against the disc although I could see the GRS from time to time. The moons shadow now on the surface and especially Ganymede whose shadow is very easy.

Very nice Paul. I was lucky as well with only the last 10 minutes with cloud.

Cracking photos with the sunspots visible as well.

15 minutes to go and I have a fairly clear sky. I set up my 6" Newt with the 13mm Ethos so I ready to go.

Okay it's not going to be a full eclipse but at least it's going to be interesting.

I have two zooms both SvBony which I use my PST and the 90mm Achro frac. Of the two I would say that the 7-21mm is better. I have used many more expensive zooms but I am satisfied with the quality of the SvBony zooms. I have never bought a Celestron zoom.

Very nice Paul.  I just had a look with my PST + DS - very interesting. I believe AR3112 is going to be very interesting especially consider its size.

Welcome to SGL - a good setup and some fine photos of Jupiter and the full Moon. I am sure your 12 year daughter will be pleased you are getting back into astronomy.

Brilliant session. I was particularly interested in vdB 1which I know is in Steve O'Meara book 'Secret Deep' which I have never seen. So we'll done picking up that object. A great session so well done seeing so many objects.

Like you I have decided to go through the various books produced by Steve O'Meara. I am not sure what your latitude is from the Emerald Hills Skies. Anyway from Home, which is latitude 52 deg North, I can view 94 of the 109 objects.

Lovely report and it must be great to be able to use the 20" Dob especially on an EQ tracking platform.

Nik a remarkable video especially when you consider its been over 70 years. It was interesting to see the workers (a great deal of smokers) putting the mirror through its initial manufacturing before moving to Mount Palomar.

I have a SvBony 90mm 5.5 Acho which I rate very well. I usually use a SvBony 7-21 zoom which works very well. To be honest I have never used my Televue Ethos 6mm EP  on this set up and my 3-6mm Nagler zoom has been used but it's been a long time ago and I cannot remember how it performed.

So for the money the SvBony frac and the EP are great value and I would recommend them for anybody never mind a 5 year old although I appreciate the owner has bought the scope. If I was thinking of changing the EP I would consider a zoom to Adam J.

Although I have never used Canon IS binos I have used my Helios Apollo binos which have a screw thread in the EP setup. I have screwed a UHC and O-III filters into the binos and have had excellent views of the NAN and the Veil.- - plus other Nebs.

So it worth a try getting filters into the Canon binos because the outcome is really magnificant.

Not seen this before - really excellent. I have seen all the Messier objects but some have been really difficult especially from Hereford.

Although I have seen the Crescent Neb I have never heard of the Soap Bubble although I have picked it up in the map D1 of the Interstellarum atlas. Really brilliant photo - well done.

Interesting read Stu. I have started to observe again after 5 months and your report makes me want to get out.

Of course I have sold quite a bit of kit but I still have the eyepieces and the 6" Newt. So with the darker nights starting again in August I will try and get out.
