Wow, 38mm!! On the plus side, you can stay warm and watch through your EP from the kitchen window then!

i miss her dearly. Not sure I will ever have another so special, although I have got my eye on a shapely little 55mm Plossl that could fill the void [emoji7]
I missed my 41 Pan in the same way Derek, this has nicely filled that urge. Not sure I could resist another Panoptic though. That 55 Plossl will have about a fortnights eye relief! You'll heve to update us on how you get on with it.
Just for info, the "grenade" is an oversised plasic container that looks the part. An actual grenade is smaller and the modern ones are made without the fragmentation grooves, ie, snooth.

No, left.......

Here's my TV 40mm Wide Field (AKA hand grenade) I bought off Derek to fund his TV habit above!
Just for fun I photographed it with a grenade.
The Grenade is the one on the right.

I have a 40 TV WF and a TV32 Plossl myself Shane so I'd be intrigued too.
Bet the Nagler doesn't get the same points for eye relief!!

Bit of a snob for binos, so saved hard for these (among others!)
8.5x42 Swaro
Nikon EDG 8x32
8x24 Swaro
Most impressive to me are the Nikons. Outstanding light gathering and peerless clarity.

I just got hold of a nice TV wideview 40mm so decided to cut new foam and sort my case out!
Here's the result.
Top left, Speers Waler 5-8 zoom, TV Ethos 8mm, then 13mm, Explore Scientific 20mm, top right is the 40mm TV Wideview.
Bottom left is a nice zoom made by Swarovski for Meade years ago before Meade made their own. Rare, and nice to use.
A couple of Powermates in there too. Note gap........ ;-D

My first post on here (2 yrs ago!), is now out of date (page2).
Gone are the heavy 10x70 Fujis, in are (is?) a Denkmeier Binoviewer. Good choice but not asimple grab and go. Still, it needs no cool down time, just an altaz mount.
Also I've bought into some small Porros, Swarovski 8x30 and the gorgeous Nikon 8x30EII porros, with 70 degree afov and yards of eye relief.
And I couldn't resist the Nikon EDG 8x32 I got from the States as a "factory refurb" (Read-brand new and very cheap). Wonderful.
That good I sold the Swaro EL 8x32s that I thought I'd be buried with!
Alot happens in two years. :-D

Goodbye Sir Patrick. You will be missed so much, such an inspiration to so many, worldwide.
And thank you.

I noticed one out of place eyepiece in there. Is that to say Delos is better then XW?
No not really, the Delos just fitted my specs, and came up at the right time (and price).
The XW are so good. I can't put a fault to their name, other than the 3.5mm makes my floaters more obvious. That's just me, not the EP.
I love the feel of the Delos though, and optically, it's hard to find a big difference.
The odd ones out are the TV 32mm Plossl and the Swarovski (Meade) zoom. Both good but not what I'd aimed for. A Zoom is a Zoom, (AFOV not so good and variable).
The nicest EPs to use are the XW 20mm, and the Panoptic. fabulous wide field views, nice ER, and crisp to the edge.
I prefer a wider view and let the subject drift through, hence my want for good edge clarity.

I'm really pleased I've got this lot together and all under the wifes' nose.
Not one of them was over ( ahem...) £100. Or so.
:-D
Taken ages but love using them. The idea was to aim at good eye relief and 70 deg AFOV throughout.

Fujinon 10x70 are my astro bins. Lovely but very heavy ( sturdy).
Swaro 8.5x42 ELs, 8x32 ELs, and some 10x25 Lieca Ultravids.
I spoilt myself before I got back into 'scope astronomy. Binocular astronomy is still my first love though, and there is zero set up time, no hassle carry, and no cool down time so oportunism is the name of the game!!

Fan- bl@@dy- tastic work.

No worries, thanks all the same Jake.

Would this be the same set up for a CG5 Celestron mount (EQ5)?
Terrific thread btw, thanks for the time you've put in!!!

A big thank you from a noob who until a few moments back, thought he had a fair idea about how the Mk 1 eyeball worked!
Fascinating.
Show me your eyepiece/accessories case, please.

I was in HM forces, don't fret Floater, I was on the right side!!!
Most interesting optical things we had to play with at that time was IR scopes (heat signitures) and Starlight rifle scopes (these would have made a Televue 85 on top of a rifle look tidy and nicely compact!!!).
