  1. Paul M, Thanks I will try what you suggested. I had no idea that ASTAP can do an LRGB stack. That is all I was using GIMP for: to produce an RGB image. Fancy image manipulation is way beyond my capabilities right now. I am mostly into reducing noise and alignment. The other night, I put the C11 on the CGX and took M81. I will process that in ASTAP and see what happens. With the 6.3 focal reducer, M81 was framed almost perfectly! Glen
  2. Hello, Right now I am using ASTAP for stacking. I was using DSS. In either program, I am unable to get the stacked images for each filter to register the stars the same. When I import them into GIMP, all four image layers are slightly different. In DSS, I left one good frame as a master frame, let us say a red image, but, then, left that red image there, but unchecked for the next layer's processing. It still did not register the stars. Now, all that layer's stars ARE aligned! It is just that all four layers are different from one another. ASTAP yields the same results. I have to physically move the layers to get a color image in GIMP. I would much prefer the computer to do that work for me. How do I command the software to use a frame as an alignment master? I will say that the skies are not good here in south Georgia. Only one day in the past 3 weeks was suitable for imaging. True, it was my best image yet showing good detail of M51 during an almost full moon. Cropped, maually aligned image attached (do not laugh !). 3. Hello, Been running astroberry for a while on an RPI4. Have not seen where the supply of RPI4 boards has gotten any better in the last year. I wanted a spare, just in case. So, is anyone running an RPI4 substitute board with astroberry? I have seen some that should work, but not heard that someone was actually doing it. After running the RPI4, one of it's poor features is the lack of an external antenna jack for WiFi. I added one to mine, but it takes almost a microscope. Glen Moultrie, GA
  4. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this inquiry... Last night Ekos on an RPI4 would freeze after the Capture, Solve, and Slew portion when I clicked Refresh. It did this a number of times, even after several Reboots. It said KStars/Ekos was using 29% CPU, which seems like a lot!? Anyone else seen this? Glen K4KV Moultrie, GA
  5. Hello, Just got a CGX GEM, and want to put the C11 on the new mount. Got the OTA removed from the fork assembly. Optics need cleaning, but having trouble removing the corrector plate. The retaining ring would not come off. It is almost like it had some glue and a thin gasket on it. Is this normal? With difficulty, it came off without damage. But, now the corrector plate seems to be glued as well. Same sort of thin gasket visible to me. I am going to remove the other end where the main mirror is, then try and push the corrector plate from the other side while pulling from the front. Does this sound feasible? Take care, GlenB Moultrie, GA
  6. I used a precompiled Astroberry package, and then put that on the SSD, so I am booting off the SSD. Thanks for the link to Indi folks Glen
  7. Hello, New to KStars/Ekos/Indi...had everything working a couple nights ago, on my way to doing imaging. Ekos told me it could not plate solve for my polar alignment. This started my trouble. The stars looked fine in the image so I started fiddling with settings and such. I did have the correct FOV in Ekos, and the correct Index files... The next night, it told me the ZWO 1600MM and the 120 mini were crashing. I disconnected in Ekos, but then tried Oa capture. It worked just fine with both cameras, nothing wrong with the camera or the usb. Ekos had no problem with the filter wheel and the mount. I have been reading where others have changed cables, ports on the usb. None of that helped. AND, each time Oa capture worked just fine. I also tried updating everything with apt-get, that all went fine, but no help. Can someone tell me where I can ask for help with Indi??? Thanks in advance!
