I'm looking at two scopes....the Skywatcher Virtuoso 150mm tabletop 6 inch dob and the Celestron Omni 150mm 6 inch reflector. Wanting to do as much basic visual observation I can get for my buck.
I don't have a lot of space in my cramped apartment so a full dob is not an option at all. Whatever I buy needs to be transportable since I don't have a back or front yard. It can't be too much heavier than these as I don't have the strength to manage a bigger scope than these options. I'm wanting 150 mm aperture. I don't want a scope that solely relies on a computerized mount to function. The Skywatcher is computerized but can still be used push to, making that okay. I know the mount could be better on the Omni but in my situation, it would be a massive upgrade from my current kids toy telescope. I know there are limitations of both of these scopes but on a budget, either or would be eons above what I have now.
My conflict....I like the Skywatcher because it does have go-to, is cheaper and is compact. Downsides...I would have to find a sturdy table (I don't have the skills to make my own) to bring it out somewhere I can find space to observe (no space outside at my apartment). Also worried about dew with that open tube design...I live in the pacific northwest where it is always humid.
I also like the omni...the tripod means I wouldn't have to find a table. Downsides: I've never used an eq mount so there's a learning curve to add onto the general learning curve of learning whichever scope I do buy. Also cost. No Go To tech (not a deal breaker but something to consider while I am also considering the skywatcher).
So it comes down to tabletop Skywatcher vs Eq. mounted Omni. Thoughts?
