  1. Having recently joined and no clue in astrophotography or scopes found this post very interesting, well written and knowing that when I do get the opportunity to get out I'm not expecting to see all the magazine and Internet style pics. What I have noticed when watching YouTube vids is even the astrophotography side, when you see an image taken from a well spec scope and camera compressed from 400 to 500 individual pics stacked into one that you don't actually see alot till you start to adjust the contrast/brightness etc then the magic happens .......every adjustment you see a little bit more till you end up with this amazing image of say the horse head nebula. That is what I'm looking forward to getting home and trying to capture in December........not expecting great results as like driving a car need to start with the basics and learn but keep on trying.
  2. This is the one I bought for running dew heater on my camera lens in the winter and hopefully also power my Star Adventurer star tracker.......haven't had the chance to try it out yet so can't give you my opinion but 4.5 out of 5 with 37k reviews. https://amzn.eu/d/e7PfNyJ
  3. Thank you and sorry for the long delay had some family issues and now back at work waiting to get home in December to crack out the star tracker for the 1st time and hopefully manage to capture Orion nebula.........having this time away has allowed for some YouTube viewing on setting up the tracker and polar aligning ...just need to put it to practice 😆
  4. Just wondering what the opinion is off the setup I'm planning on using to start my stargazing/astrophotography. I have a Nikon d750 selection of lenses but my biggest being a Sigma 150-500mm f4.5 (I think) I also recently purchased a sky watcher star adventurer 2i along with King joy tripod for additional weight should I look into telescopes in the future. What sort of results could I expect to get with what I have to use and how easy is polar aligning the tracker? Thanks Stevie
  5. Thanks Jim. I will need to look into those areas, I have been up at Balvaird Castle last October but didn't see the Aurora (something else on the bucket list to photograph) I have recently purchased the sky watcher WiFi tracker (not out the box yet as it just arrived before I had to head back to work) I also have Nikon D750 and my biggest lens is 150-500mm sigma, not sure how good it would be for astrophotography and what I might be able to capture. Think my try starting with easier areas 1st like Orion nebulae (after a lot of YouTube on how to set up the tracker and align to polaris in the dark 🤣🤣) Observatory at home would be good especially now the darker nights will be starting to roll in.
  6. Hi Jim, And to think i originally grew up in the East Neuk (Anster /Anstruther ) Thanks for the info, I have seen some pics people have taken of the Aurora and milkyway from Duck Bay Loch Lomond on Facebook pages and thought about giving it a try. My daughter has also just started her 2nd year of Uni down in Dumfries so planning on trying a night or 2 down there (probably need to put the Mrs in a decent hotel while I camp out under the stars 🤣🤣) Do you do any photography or do you use a telescope?
  7. I stay just outside Dunfermline in Fife, Would you have any advice on where the Best dark sky areas nearby would be? Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
  8. Hi. Thought I would introduce myself, I'm Stevie an absolute beginner in astronomy and wanting to learn about the night sky and get into astro-photography so might be asking a lot of question over the winter. Looking forward to browsing the forums and getting to know everyone. Thanks Stevie
