  1. Tried it last night following the backlash compensation, annoyingly I found the scope would still has a massive delay in slewing left to right and right to left, even at slower speeds. At the risk of sounding like a spoilt brat, I am almost ready to give up this hobby! When I find the enthusiasm I think I need to open up the mount and look at the motors.
  2. Hi Michael, Thanks for your reply. If my scope is focused on an object, in this instance a chimney top, at speed of 5 or 6 going from left to right and right to left, the scope will slew almost instantly, albeit with a small jerk.....there is negligible delay. However, when I up the motor speed and slew left and right of the chimney, there is a very noticeable delay before the scope starts to move, in the order of 3 or 4 seconds. I found instructions somewhere online (many have been Celestrons) on how to compensate for it and it says to use a motor speed you would normally use, 4, 5 or 6.This is what I've done. No further details in that instruction regarding speeds over that. Kind regards and thankyou.
  3. Hi all, I have the Celestron SLT130 with Starsense Align which I'm having great difficulty setting up correctly. I have been battling away on nights so I can to get it 'autonomous' if you will, though viewing great objects has been really great with manual input viewing the typical objects, such as the Moon, Jupiter and it's moons and Saturn and it's rings. I would like to be able to use the Starsense Align facility though to align and view some further objects, this is proving a little more tricky. I've made good progress , however, my latest issue is that once the scope is aligned, then second alignment is complete, when I slew to a named target, it is not in the eye piece. I'm wondering if it is because there is alot of backlash in the azm movement. I have done a backlash compensation today but yet to try it out tonight, however, my concern is that when I slew manually at a motor rate of 5 or 6, the backlash is 'more or less' gone, however, when at a faster rate, it is quite severe and I can't get rid of it. When the Starsense Align is aligning, it uses motor speed 9. Does anyone have any wise words here? I'm guessing the backlash can be an issue when auto aligning? Kind regards, Neil.
  4. Hi there, I have a question regarding eye pieces.. I'm ann absolute noob.i have an slt 130,, worth a 10mm and a 3x Barlow lens only. I'm not sure what other lenses to get. I think I'll mostly be looking at planets but would like to view dso if possible at some point. Can anyone suggest what eyepieces to purchase? My budget is not wonderful so is there a not so expensive a brand worth considering that five reasonably results? Kind regards, Neil.
  5. Thanks all, last night I had success, but..............! It was largely a success and feel I have made progress as I went through the whole procedure once again, taking on-board some of the suggestions here. I used Arcturus as my calibration star and this went well. Once the Starsense Align and the telescope was calibrated, I slewed randomly and then used the handset to find Arcturus again, and it found it nicely. I then tried looking for a planet using the handset, however, I only had a choice of Mercury or Pluto listed.......I'm wondering if it's because they were the only things visible at that time based on my location and time. I'm not sure if that's how Celestron Nextstar / Starsense works. I thought other planets would be visible, but I'm a complete novice, I have to admit. Secondly, when I tried to look at either of those (Pluto or Mercury) by hitting enter, I had an error message regarding slew limits, so I tried the Star Vega, here it went quite wrong and slewed somewhere random. Arghh. I gave up at this point! I seem to be progressing slowly but now need to overcome these hiccups. 1, Does the handset only give you items that are visible at the time / place etc? 2, Do I need to adjust slew limits manually....? Thanks every one....
  6. Oh, already a few things to try. Fingers crossed for a few more nice weekends... Thanks all..
  7. Hi all. Very new to this hobby, though have had the scope a few years but not set up. I have a Celestron Slt130 with Starsense align. After a second night of failed alignment, last night I finally got the successful message alignment successful... or words to that effect. I was quite elated as I spent a few hours setting up, collimation the laser, then the scope and felt quite pleased with myself and excited for a visit to the planets. However, when i chose the star to calibrate the scope to starsense, things started to go wrong..the scope slewed in completely the wrong direction, roughly 150 degrees horizontally and below the horizon. Vega was my first choice, same thing with Arctus (I think it was called that, apologies if not).. I gave up in the end and c went to bed annoyed as it was a great night for it. I'm wondering what my next move should be. It seems Starsense is fine as the platesolving was OK. Just start again maybe and hope, or more specifically eliminate errors I am currently unaware of? (I'm in the UK btw, Swindon. When I put in the time, I used West Europe, bst. If I used Central Europe, I had failure. This of course might be the issue and coincidental of a failure elsewhere) Many thanks Neil.
