  1. Many thanks again Elp, the prism is square so i think i might just have to bite the bullet and order a new ITF filter when somebody has one in stock. The worst thing that could happen would be a spare ITF filter. If i cant breath any life back into her i might go down the Daystar quark route next year and in the meantime i've still got my baader wedge which is pretty good..
  2. See what you mean about poor. The prism seems to be ok it slightly locked in place place on the opposite side and when you turn it to meet the eyepiece tube its pretty square with the top of the body. Managed to get a good ten minutes today so i unscrewed the whole eyepiece tube and on top of the prism could see a bright green disk..
  3. Thanks again i will try that, might use a bit of wd40 then leave overnight just to work its magic. Will let you know..
  4. Hi Elp, tested the BF end this morning and light seems to be coming through ok, the top of the prism seems to be parallel to the eyepiece and i also shined my iphone light down the objective lens and saw a sharp pinpoint green light on top of the prism. I can only conclude that (1) the prism is so far out of line but it seems fine to me and with the eyepiece holder of the scope removed its pretty parallel and there absolutely no left or right movement. (2) The finder is suddenly so for out of line, but having put my ED80 with a baader wedge on my sky tee my pst should be pretty much in the same ballpark. (3) it's more than likely to be the itf even though when laid directly on top of my iphone light i can see light. Just can't think i've missed anything else. Many thanks again Elp ..
  5. Thanks again Elp i will try that in the morning and will let you know and thank you once more for your help ..
  6. Thanks Elp just done that and from what i can tell it looks ok as in nice and shiney both sides even done the trick with my iphone light again and can see my iphone light both sides all around the filter can' really make out any bad areas.
  7. Hi everyone a newbie here, I've had my pst about 6 years now but due to a neck operation not been able to do any obsering day or night for about 20 months.Last week i set it up on my vixen porta ll mount but couldn't see the sun at all, not a faint image or a blurry image just blackness. Now having used my pst fairly regular pre op i new all its little quirks like in the little solar finder the sun was not dead center but was above center and to the left so i know my pst pretty well. I've been trying to find the sun but to no avail so i have stripped it down to see if i could see anything obvious, the prism seems to be inline the itf filter is a slight mirrored greenish one side and a slight mirrored pink on the other. The objective lens is a nice blue and looks clean all the way so i am at a complete loss. I tried a little experiment with the itf filter in which i turned my iphone light on and sat the filter on top and i did see the faint light through it. So what i would like to ask is have any of you had this problem or heard of this problem or even any ideas, my little pst that 2 years ago used to give me some great little images seems to have given up the ghost, it's got me totally baffled thank you for your patience many thanks ian..
