Just looking at old post and yes it do look like spider vanes , try some were with out a big Star to see if it still show 6 if it do them it can only be the vanes doing this.

I do not think its your spider vanes the rest of the Stars only have 4 Alnitak is a big Star doing this to your image.

I was hoping to go out side tonight , so I will ask do you have the Heq5 synscan upgrade kit before i can take you thouth taking it apart. I am hoping a friend of mind is going to make a Control Panel what you can see on the computer so the LEDs Will indicate changing conditions and trigger the relays.

My rain sensor Side of project had already been done it simply a set of LED lights on the side of the shed change colours to indicate the Changing weather conditions which make it easy for me to just close down the program until the sky conditions improve maybe I'll do more work on this later to make it more computerised.

I started Making a cloud sensor/Rain sensor some time ago with the Arduino but struggling with the codes I have just switched over to a Mac computer so progress is very slow , Maybe some of your codes may be helpful to my project as well. I am still running the Original project on my Windows 7 Computer a lot my codes are working you see more on my project under cloud sensor.

I done my one 3 years ago and still working on windows 7 64 ok . I only done the SPC 900CN firmware. and driver for it and haved use it with Phd in the past. best £15 spent 25 years ago lol.

The more I think about it you can fit the cylinder on top of warm room roof with the motor and rain cover over it ,and the push out bar with the arms on can fix to the open roof so you have not got to start adding pullys ect plus it help to hold the roof on as well. PS the arms have got springs in them . if you like any photos just ask. les

My one open out to a good 7ft you can ajust the arms .

Something to think about, I pick up last year one of them roller blinds to keep the Sun out that go over shop windows, ok the cover is no good but the long cylinder with the gearbox on the end may work as a roll off roof. as you got a warm room you can use the arms to pull the roof on and off over the warm room. Can leave the cover on but it will look like a citreon cv.

Can you make the panel a part of the roof ,like a up and over door.
