That's a good review of the process. I do things a little differently. As my polar alignment is usually just close, not spot on, I usually calculate the difference between the RAs and Decs of the two objects, then move my scope that much. As I have a lesser mount (cheapo Meade) my RA dial is in 12 minute increments, and my dec dial in 2 degree increments, so I still have to fish a little when I get into the right pond.
