  1. Shooting at lunch can be tough. A good hood or cloak to cover your focus area might help. Make sure its light colored on the top or it will heat up. Also, I've found it easier to tell when the image is out of focus. I'll usually rock back and forth between focus and out on both sides of focus and then find the mid spot. What type of filter material are you using? You might try some Baader film and a Green #58 filter. When taking the image put your camera in B&W mode. This will null out any odd green coloration and only show the contrasts. Best of Luck
  2. Hello everyone. Below are some images I've taken over the past few days. I used a Lunt 152 telescope and just got my Calcium module for it. Its a cool device and is based on their wedge design. It allows for over a 152mm aperture. The calcium device came with a visual back that allows for night time imaging or Greenlight imaging. I put a piece of baader film on the scope and got some GreenLight images.

  4. Exceptional detail Sheri. Those proms on the H-alpha disk were gone by the time the rotational view got around to Texas but the spots were a site to see. Well done.

  6. I use a 2x Celestron Barlow head on occasion but don't really see an issue with it. However, on a few occasions I've noticed the brass retaining ring that holds the lenses in was loose. I check it now every other month or so. I am curious about how your 2.5x powermate works for you. The one I got a few years ago has a tapered front end where the lense is. The barrel on it is so long that if you put it in a prism diagonal, there is a chance the tapered end could scratch your diagonal if its a prism type. I think the newer type though are not tapered.   7. Hello Tom, For this setup I got a Lunt 60 front filter (non Doublestack type) and adapter to fit the filter to the front of the telescope, and a rear blocking filter. They make two types of front filter, one is for adding to an existing filter as a "double stack" filter and the other is a standalone type like the one I got. The single stand alone filter is rated by the Lunt group at <.75 angstrom. If you add a Double stack filter to the front of it the filtering is reduced to <.5 angstrom. These Lunt filters do not have a central obstruction in them like the Coronado filters do. In the Coronado days the 60mm filters were matched to the threads of the Televue Pronto and TV76. They also used a T-max device behind the front filter. Lunt's filters have this function build into the filter housing. It basically tilts the internal etalon filter such that it detunes the band pass. This allows you to pick up fast moving detail like proms. I got the Televue Pronto Used on a local (stateside) classified website called Astromart. I've always wanted a green one. I have a Lunt 152 scope and had called to get some warranty work done on it and started talking to Rikki, the nice sales lady at Lunt Solar Systems. She mentioned that they had a sale going right now for the month of June on these filters, 20% off. I had wanted one for my Pronto for a while so I jumped on the opportunity. For the back of the scope you need a Blocking filter. I went with a straight type because they are easier to connect to a DLSR but they also come in diagonal types too. You have to match these to your focal length in order to see a full disk when you look through the eyepiece. The blocking filters come in different exit aperture sizes, the B600 is for scopes up to 600mm focal length, B1200 for scopes with focal lengths up to 1200mm and the B1800 for scopes with focal lengths up to 1800mm. I got the 600 for the Pronto since its FL is 560. I works really well for me. I took the images below yesterday except for the full disk which was taken the day before. Clear Skyz,

  10. I just got my new Lunt front 60mm stand-alone filter with B600 straight. I will be putting it through the paces tomorrow morning if all goes well. Clear Skyz,
  11. Thank you. I sometimes take for granted the clear skys we have here in Texas. I try to make the most of all the clear days that I can. I have another video I'm working on that I took on the 4th. It should be a bit longer than the first. It was a really good day.
  12. I almost forgot, on this day I was also helping a friend figure out a good ISO/Shutter speed to use for capturing the Sun's full disk. I have a Canon XTI camera. I found that it isn't exactly the best for catching H-alpha detail but its definitely do-able. The thing I like best about the camera is its ability to take repetitive shots without the lag to write to the memory card. That's a big plus. Long story short I found that with my setup a 1/6th~1/20th shutter speed worked best and a good stack of about 75 make the image look pretty Juicy.

  15. Hello everyone. Its been a busy month with little time to shoot the Sun but I did get out on the 3rd and 4th. I cobbled together a video of the large prom on the 3rd and will work on the one on the 4th soon. I recently have my solar telescope tweaked at Lunt Solar Systems and its really rocking now.   17. I had a really good weekend. I did my two favorite things, shoot the Sun and make BBQ. I've been thinking my solar images have been sort of odd of late. Slightly blurred and the full disk seems sort of off as far as detail goes. I reasoned that it could be the collimation. I found a site that sells a handy collimation eyepiece for refractors and checked my 152. It was way off. When I went to collimate it one of the screws fell out. After an hour or pushing and pulling I finally got the lens on track. I checked again Saturday and it had slipped out just a little so I recentered it prior to getting the shots attached. I'll probably do it one more time just to make sure its on track but I think its pretty good now. The eyepiece was made by Agena Astro if anyones curious. It works in standard daytime light without needing Stars and is great if your using an adjustable achro. Clear Skyz,
