The kind gentleman with the spectrograph is Jack, one of the many members of my club Castle Point Astronomy Club that attended the event. Jack does lots of real science with his spectrograph and is assisting a number of professional Astronomy teams so I believe.
Awesome!

I thought it was well worth the journey up. The stands were a plenty and the cafe was better than the one at astrofest, albeit a little pricey. I picked up a Zwo AEF and a t-shirt.
The highlight was getting a glimpse of the sun through a Shelyak Lhires III Spectrograph and looking at fat absorption lines in Ha. Lovely bit of kit and kind gentleman for letting us take a look!

First time for me too! Looking to pick up an EAF and possibly a filter.
Hopefully meeting some astro mates who are driving up from Bristol.
Hope you have a good day out.

Since they are lithium ion does that mean if they hit you it would qualify as a salt and battery?
You mean "Charged" with a salt and battery surely?

wonders what the batteries are made of,
According to wiki entry the current batteries are Lithium Ion. This was an upgrade from Nickel-hydrogen.

The weather has been unpredictable here in UK too (to say the least)
Which comet are you hoping to capture?

Based on previous observations this could go Nova very soon so those of you that are bored waiting for Betelgeuse to go, this might fill the gap.
Here's a quick wiki piece on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T_Coronae_Borealis
And Tsula (as always) does an entertaining video https://youtu.be/8eVr82_o9rA

so it would have had to have blown up 650 years ago for us to see it now -
If we are looking at it under really high magnification are we reducing that time period? effectively time travelling ?
Or is that not the case ?

I'd hope that somebody somewhere is monitoring it, just in case.
I think everyone is too busy monitoring T Coronae Borealis

This might be a little bit off topic but the other day I was looking for a news app for my phone that is dedicate to astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. I could find general science news apps and of course new scientist but couldn't find an app with news articles dedicated to astro.
Fancy writing one?
I'm on android by the way 😉

How was Megan Argo's talk? She was my tutor last year so I stopped by to chat but I only went to the exhibition, not the talks.
Got there just as it was finishing. Bit gutted as i would have like to have seen it.

Went on Friday as planned.
The talks were better than I expected - just as well as the 'exhibition' was the thinnest I've ever seen it. Lots of areas not filled with vendors/exhibitors.
Agreed, I love the talks yesterday! Chris Lintott was brilliant!

Thats really kind of you. Unfortunately its only the Saturday I can go this year.
I have investigated an alternative option this morning.
Driving to Amersham at the top of the Metropolitan Line and tubing in from there whilst leaving my car on the Multi Story. This might work, other than its a 1.5 hours to Amersham in the car.
Sounds like a plan!
Hope you have a good day out.

I believe ow my forecast visit has been sabotaged by the train drivers. Both Avanti West Coast and West Midlands lines are due to be on strike.
I'm struggling to find convenient park and ride options.
Was thinking of parking at Brent Cross (I understand it's free) and tubing in from there. Just not sure whether it's worth the extra effort now.
I live a few tube stops up the road from Brent Cross (Burnt Oak) on the northern line. If you are thinking of going on the Friday you could park outside my house (free and safer that a random carpark) and tube in with me if you want?

If this is true it's very sad news indeed.
If it's not true, i'll look forward to WITNS in the coming days.
