  3. Something has definitely emerged http://soho.esac.esa.int/data/realtime/c2/512/ http://soho.esac.esa.int/data/realtime/c3/512/
  4. Hi Baz/Steve, I know your frustrations only to well, having had my foot in plaster for the better part of 11 months, a few years ago. I recently got my hands on a decent observation stool for €20 in a local secondhand shop and to be honest I'm still scratching my head as to why I didn't get one sooner. I used it for the first time tonight and I enjoyed 2 hours of pain free time at the scope and like yourself I got some wonderful views of Jupiter and the Moon. Best of luck with the physiotherapy, it will seem like a complete pain, but it is well, well worth it in the long run.
  5. I set up earlier this afternoon, thinking it might clear later in the evening. But no joy, I called it quits at 6:00pm when the rain started.
  6. A wonderful night here in Dublin. Just after finishing up a three hour sint at the scope during that time I managed to,get a good, look at the following. Mizar Albiero Pleiadies Double Cluster Ring Nebula Altair Coathangar Cluster Dumbell Nebula Deneb Polaris Really chuffed with myself it is the decent eveing I've had in ages.
  7. After finishing up a good nights obs, I was dismantling my set up and my Better Half seeing my CPC 9.25 sitting off its tri-pod on the kitchen floors names it R2D2. Which has struck ever since.
  8. Good progress made today, now have all the bit 'n pieces together. Let the fun begin
  9. Have just started to gather the materials together for have a bash at it.
  10. I use Google Sky Map on my Samsung Galaxy II, it is free and I have found it to be very worthwhile. I also have Astro Panel for the weather and Aurora Buddy for predicting the Northern Lights.
  11. Cheers John, I've just installed it
  12. I recently bought my first edition of S@N mag for my ipad and I have to say I was disappointed as a lot of the content that is normally included on the CD was not available or at least I can't find it yet. I always enjoy the monthly sky notes on the CD, previously with Patrick Moore and Pete Lawrence and more recently with Paul Abel. I probably won't renew my ipad subscription if these item are not included.
  13. Cheers alan g I am considering getting one myself and I am please to read the positive review.
  14. A wonderfully clear night here in Dublin at present. Got some great views of Saturn. But boy is it cold.
  15. A definite must when I'm in London next time. Might even take the boat down from Tower Bridge.
  16. As a kid of the 60's the space race got me hooked on all thing astro. I also remember been allowed to stay up late a watch the Sky at Night. The rest is a life long interest that has never flagged.
  17. I have a 32mm Ultima LX and have used it for about a year now. I am very happy with it and don't plan to get anything new soon. I used on with my CPC 9.25 and I the Ultima LX a good match for my SCT I find with the Ultima LX and I have 5 of them, that the image remains strong right out to the edge and the FOV is very forgiving for anyone who maybe wearing glasses.
  18. I always enjoy one of these and a cup of tea
  19. I got my CPC 925 about two years now and I am very happy with it. In that time I have assembled a near complete set of Ultima LX eye pieces. I did a comparison test with them against Celestron Excel LX and the renowned Baader Hyperions, in my opinion the Ultimas came out on top. I also added a Celestron 2" diagonal, although the optics are good, I am not happy with the finish of the threads which is poor. I may try the Baader diagonal later this year if funds permit. Enjoy your scope.

  22. Next Saturday night is looking good for Dublin
  23. I was going to tell the one about the time that an Arch Bishop and the Politician walked into the pub and the Barman said.............. However, as Politics and Religon are verboten, I'll say nothing
  24. Here in Dublin last night we were treated to a magnificent Harvest Moon. One of the best I recall in recent years. Hopefully the clouds clear for another view tonight
