  10. Two nights in a row out under the stars. No cloud at all tonight so excellent! Managed to see Comet 2019 Y4 (ATLAS) through my big bins and now hopefully imaging it with my widefield mini- rig. Self isolating in a big way as the rest of Lowestoft's residents appear to be asleep in bed. Don't remember ever seeing Coma Berenices quite so bright with the naked eye and spectacular through my bins. What a great night for stargazers.

  17. Hi Everyone. Just thought I'd share my first ever image of M42 and say thank you to everyone who helped me out on here. I had so many troubles with my mount and after using the help provided from this site, I can confirm the mount is working like a charm, finally. This is a single 240 sec exposure of M42 with an un-modded Canon 6D, no guiding, no stacking...I'm so happy. I now have to learn to auto guide with PHD 2....so you'll be hearing from me soon. Thank you all

  18. Not sure what to make of it, the sky has gone an unusual black colour with loads of white dots in it, like old fashioned tarmac drives. Not sure what is going on up there so have pointed a camera skywards to investigate............

  22. Out last night in the observatory, an interesting night, first night for quite awhile. I was starting to pack up and close down about 1230 when I heard someone on his phone in the lane a couple of feet away. Deciding to wait until he finished and buggered off I stayed quite until I realised he was not going away so got on with with closing down, it was then I heard him say that there was someone in his neighbours shed. It dawned on me that he was speaking to the police and I was the subject, hitting the security switch I got the lights on and greeted him over the fence, we both laughed about i

  25. My first Ortho just arrived, namely Baader Classic Ortho 18mm. I considered many EPs and I needed something in the range of 18-24mm, as currently I have only 15mm and then 32mm. Quick daytime test revealed more vivid colours and somewhat brighter and more contrasty image compared to my current favourite ES70 15mm. Eye relief is nowhere near as bad as I expected. So excited, like a little kid! Can't wait for nighttime!

  28. Photographed my first proper star the other night. I couldn't get my kit setup for nebulae in time and it was nearing 1 am. Capella from the constellation Auriga. It was also my first time using dark frames and it really did a great job removing the hot and cold pixels from my overall image. I also am aware i was getting some star travel. I am not using autoguiding but instead the HEQ5's auto slewing. Still from the amount of time I had to do this, I'm pretty proud of it at least. Learnt a lot and getting much more comfortable with my scope! Clear skies appear to be so rar

  38. Today I started building my 3d printer in kit form. Bewildering number of parts! Thank goodness they are well labelled. This will not be a fast process - after all I'm a 'simple country architect not an engineer Jim'! ? My partner is already getting twitchy with all the parts laid out in the 'clean room' or kitchen as she prefers to call it. Not sure how long she will be 'comfortable' with the kitchen table out of action? George in his slumber chariot considering 3 dimensional possibilities.

  40. Expect to take delivery of my new APM LZOS 130 f/9 scope this week. Rather excited and not just because it has a very high quality lens (even for LZOS). Wanted this telescope for years. So if this remarkable streak of clear skies suddenly ends, I apologise!
