This is a crop at the raw image size. I have adjusted the dynamic range to maximise the contrast. Likewise the halos around the stars are due to the HDR conversion curve. The square offs are either an artefact of the RAW compression or of the DSS processing.

I guess it compares reasonably well to the trapezium of the celebrated HST image at http://starryskies.com/articles/2007/07/mw-img/hst.orion01.jpg, considering it was my first astrophotograph and done with less that 0.01% of the HST budget...
