Andromeda Galaxy M31

Hugechris

This was the first attempt at imaging M31 through the C6SE using Canon 1100D at ISO3200 14 x 15s exposures at prime focus in September 2012. 10 darks @ 15s stacked, normalised and subtracted from each image.

Post processing included the removal of most of the light pollution.

Increasing the length of exposures is almost impossible.

However in the process I built an alignment algorithm in Mathematica, based on the one used by NASA (and DSS) for plate solving, the results are decent for the quality of stacking and a big improvement on memory usage compared with the stock Mathematica algorithm. The exposure time can only really be solved with a better mount and a nice dark sky site !
