M31 - Andromeda Galaxy

Jessun

This is M31 - Andromeda Galaxy. Another nemesis of mine. This one was a battle as I struggled to get my Canon 600D to image anything I could use. The camera was fine, but I struggled with dew, focus, guiding etc. And I didn't know how to take flats, so this lacks all calibration. The colours are a bit off, but it's my first guided image and I'll keep it as it is as a fond memory of the early struggles.

Canon 600D

SW ED80 and MS Webcam guiding

248 minutes in total, and I think 2 minute subs.

Flats are easy to make, either at twilight, dawn or dusk, quick exposure (I use 1/250s for ISO 1600, and abt. 1/180s for ISO 800). Or put a white t-shirt or s/thing like that in front of the objective / entrance of scope )I wrapped it around some), shine a uniform lightsource at it (flashlight, cellphonelight, somewhat bright), and make the exposures w/ the cam to the scope (t-ring adapter, like making prime focus pics.)
