I don't know why the makers of such fine optics as Celestron and Meade can't for the life of them, install a decent focusing-mechanism. But they can't. A peanut-butter lid is a pretty common response. I kid you not!
 
Here in the US, an engineer sells after-market fits to fix the problems with Meade SCT's - including the focus - or lack thereof:

These work like a charm. If not, I'd have a FeatherTouch, too. This shows yet another 'fix' I use on my LX90.

Makes sense to me, i had the Feather Touch and it did make a real difference, Celstron now supply there latest Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph with a Feather Touch Focuser.....

I used a very large rubber grommet on my LX90. Found it in my workshop, no idea where it came from but just pushed on to the knob, job done.

For that ultimate extra-soft touch try lining the peanut butter lid with black foam insulation.
