Is a powermate 5.0x too much for a 127mm mak?

Recommended Posts

That would be imaging at around f60 with the mak too, far more than the ball park figure of around f30

The ball-park figure of F/25-F/30 is for cameras with bigger pixels (like the SPC900, DMK21, QHY5-II, ASI130 or ASI174). Cameras with pixels of around 3.75 micron like the ASI120, or the QHY5L-II have a ballpark figure closer to F/18-F/22

Thanks for that, I'll forget that idea then, you've saved me £150 anyway!

I've tried stacking the 2 barlows (a 2 and a 2.5) with a ps3 eye cam before but found focus difficult, image was a bit mushy which I put down to seeing and I've no idea what fl that was (I presume its more complex than 2 x 2.5 x 1500)

I mainly use a camera with pixel size of 3.69µm, almost identical size to yours. Through many lunar and solar captures with various scopes, I have come to the conclusion that I do not get any  obvious extra detail with this camera beyond about F20, regardless of which scope I am using, and I need quite good conditions for F20 to pay off. So with my 8 inch SCT, F10, I go no higher than 2x Barlow now with this cam.
