connecting scope laptop to indoors laptop

Hello everybody, I am having trouble sorting what could be a relatively simple problem, and would appreciate your input and advice.

So far then I will be using a mallincam on my meade scope connected and controled by a laptop next to it. An HDMI over CAT 6 to connect the laptop screen to the TV in the house (for the faint hearted folk who don't like the cold!)

I am now thinking of linking the outside laptop to a laptop inside to possibly control things outside from inside.

Do I use WIFI plus extenders?....will plug-in extenders work on an extention cable?...CAT cables?

How would / have you done this please?

kind regards

Mike

I have a similar setup to what you are thinking.

I use an ASUS RT-AC66U router which has a great range for me out here in the country.

I have a laptop at the scope with a wifi connection to the house. Distance from the laptop to the wifi router is about 40 meters.

The laptop mounts a drive on the house desktop for data storage.

The desktop in the house connects to the laptop with Teamviewer. Teamviewer works the best for me. I tried all the "VNC" programs and none of them come close to Teamviewer.

Everything works great.

If your wifi range is to far, then you may be able to  use PowerLine extenders to connect from the scope back to the house over the AC line.

I eventually had enough of teamviewer which could be done by Wifi as my observatory laptop didn't have a reliable connection with the router in the house. To that end I've hard wired up to the observatory - So a Cat6 cable from the obs to my router in the house - Works a treat!

Thanks for the replies,....kendg, I have about the same distance to cover, but not line of sight, part of my roof is in they way, is yours line of sight? but this option sounds good,.... Tinker1947,...I would need an exstention cabe from the house of 40-50m, would the plug ins work on this?, swag72, I like the cat 6 idea, could you tell me roughly what is needed to atchive this please?

Thanks everybody else for you input!

I connected the Cat6 cable to my router in the front room....... drilled through the wall and ran the cable for 30m or so to the observatory. At that end it plugged into a switch gear and then into the PC in the obs. I control it using Remote Desktop from my laptop in the front room.

Works a treat and means I can always get a connection without depending on flaky wifi in the obs

Not line of sight. I've got 4  walls between the scope laptop and the router. Total distance between the scope and router is about 45 to 50 meters
