New to the forum - saying hi!

Hi there,

I have recently registered and wanted to say hi, my partner bought me the skywatcher explorer 130p for my birthday in October - although the skies have not been clear for quite while......I must admit I am slightly scared of using it. I have been researching on the web for an idiots guide to setting it up and using, and learning about the different lenses etc.....but I can't find anything simple enough. I have an awful lot to learn....I am very much a beginner (this is my first ever telescope) When I tested it out a while back I also found what could be a design fault - when the telescope is programmed to look directly up to search for something the bottom of it hits the legs (although it manoeuvres itself around it, I wasn't sure if anyone else had this problem too)

I am sorry that I have not learnt the technical terms - but like I say I am extremely new to this and very very keen to start my new hobby.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to SGL - Glad that you found us. Another thing you could do to help get you started is download a planetarium programme called Stellarium - It's great to get you leaning and navigating the sky.

Look forward to seeing you around :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. Lots of information on the forum including using the search button (top left of your screen) to access past questions and answers. Nothing in astronomy is difficult to learn though I would concede there is a fair bit of it to get through but you can take a whole lifetime as there's no rush!

Clear skies and hope you enjoy your stay here.

Hi Lee and welcome to SGL, you should get comprehensive illustrated information on assembling and using your scope and guidance with observing, if you look up the website of Themcdonalds.net Other than that, you may find it helpful to ask questions in the relevant sections of the forum, enjoy your Astronomy :)

Hi Lee and welcome to SGL, you have found the place for all your answers.

Just post a question in the General and Getting started section (or other appropriate section) and you will quickly get a response from several members who are familiar with your particular issue.

Remember the only daft question is the one you don't ask... we have all started at the bottom and most, if not all, of us are still learning new things.

Good luck and clear skies.

Best regards.

Sandy.
