Can't Stack Large Lunar Images - Help!

Recommended Posts

I am using a Nikon D7000 on my Nexstar 4SE to take raw (NEF) photos of the moon.  The file size is about 15 MB.  I then run the 50-60 files through PIPP with no problem.  The output from PIPP is in .tiff format and the individual files are about 23 MB (approx 3400 x 3400).  This file size kills Autostakkert and Registax 6.  I suppose I could do this in Photoshop, but I was wondering what others do in this case.

Thanks!

You can crop off unwanted sky in PIPP, not sure if you can downsize them in PIPP, you can downsize them in PS I suppose if you're not planning on large prints.

Thanks Dave.  I did crop the photos in PIPP.  What I'm thinking now is that maybe I can try to break the photos up into quadrants in PIPP and stitch the final result in Photoshop.  Just not sure if that would still be too big to run wavelets in Registax.
