Good seeing in southern Spain

The "pros" just down the road - well, OK 50km away but I can see their domes during the day - report the local seeing conditions on their mountain top. Right now it's looking like a none-too-shabby 0.5 arc-sec!

I think I am right in saying though the word to consider here is Mountain, there will be a fair difference at say sealevel but I guess it is at least a guide.

I have just had 21 days clear on the trot and the seeing has varied a lot, one night I could bearly get above X100 next night on the same scope x300 was possible.

I remember cycling up to Calar Alto's domes once on New Year's Day, on my demon little folding bike. It's an almighty view from up there - over to the African coast, even.

0.5 arcsecs is around my guiding error so I'd have to be careful...

Wow! I live here in the Sevilla province of Andalucia and never knew about the Calar Alto! I am now going to get more info about it and  I will definately visit. Any other astro goodies I should know about in the Andalucia region?

Well, Calar Alto sports the biggest telescope in mainland europe: 3.5m.

There's also the solar system observatory at La Sagra

near Puebla de Don Fadrique

and there's my place - about mid-way between the two!
