Hi,

Just a quick intro,

I have just purchased my 2nd "real" telescope which is a Celestron CPC 1100. My first was a Skywatcher 12" reflector on a NEQ6 pro mount, which was way too big to handle and too difficult for me to use. Truth is, I didnt have a clue on how to use the mount. Setting it up to use "manually" on my own was a drama and therefore sat in the corner never being used and being wasted.

So, I part exed it for the CPC. I guess you could say that I jumped in at the deep end! My reasoning is, I wont have to upgrade any time soon, if ever. And, very importantly, is much easier to move about On my own. Although I havnt had the chance to use it yet, due to the past few days weather, the goto system seems very easy to use. Fingers crossed!

I am VERY much a newbie, so forgive me if my questions are a little vague and the answers are obvious.

As a child, I had a few supermarket type telescopes which I loved to look through at the moon. Then I lost interest until I moved next door to a guy who is very much into astronomy. After seeing Saturn ( which mesmerised me) through one of his telescopes, my mind was set on buying one myself. Which in turn has led me to here.

Im hoping to learn alot on here and any advice or reccomendations on anything I might need will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

David.

A 12" on an EQ.........you may have kept it for longer if Dobsonian mounted?

Nevertheless, its down to the end user, and you appear to be happier with the newer scope.

Welcome to the SGL.

To be honest, I probably would have kept it had it been on a dobsonian mount. It would have been so much easier to use.

I would have still bought the type of scope I have now though, but probably one not as expensive as this one. Trading the other one in was a bonus really.

For me, having something that can help guide me to the different stars and planets is very important. Using a telescope, I have ever only seen the moon and saturn! I dont know where anything else is. As I said, im very much a newbie. On the bright side, I have it all to come.
