yeah it's of the plucking foam variety as in squares you can pull out one by one.

Here's one of mine with some bits & bobs in it yet to fill up another one, at this rate I might need another one or two

I've found these cases work very well. I have 3 of the things now !

I found a way to house my items that leaves the cubes of foam in place but allows them to depress into shapes that accomodate the items and then you can pull them back up again and re-shape the depressions when your kit changes. Mine hasn't changed for a while now but my goodness it changed a lot up until about 18 months ago :rolleyes2:

Nice 1 guys, John, I was just thinking exactly about your post - I've got 10 Hyperions to place in the one of my cases - I think they may fit, but I was wondering what's the best way to lay them out to test - do you just place them on top of the foam and shut the lid - or do you cut depth - ways (going down about 50% into the squares) into the foam squares.

What I do is to position the eyepiece on top of the foam cubes then split a suitable size block of cubes to take the eyepiece size tearing the connections around the edges of the block for a couple of cubes deep. I then press the eyepiece down onto the foam cube block which depresses to accomodate it. The foam "points" in lining the lid of the eyepiece case hold the eyepiece in place and over a little time the depression forms the shape of the eyepiece holding it snugly in place. If you want to change the layout, the depressed block of foam cubes can be pulled back up and will resume it's shape, more or less, level with the rest of the foam.

Whether a single case will take 10 Hyperions I don't know. Here are my cases - I'd not increase the density of the items in them personally:

Hi John, Thanks very much for the quick reply - I think I'm not going to get all the EP's in looking at your layout - what a very nice set of EP's you have - you must be proud of them.  I think if I can lay them out beforehand, there's not going to be a great deal of protection around each one - so may have to re - think - I've ordered two cases - I could probably do with four - I'll have to see how I get on with them - Thanks again and regards.

NIce 1  - I had mine delivered yesterday - very quick transaction and Kudos to Maplin Outlet  - I had them delivered even before I had the despatch confirmation - really well done Maplin !!- I took your advice John, leaving the cubes intact and just depressing the "hole" for the EP's- I managed to get 8 Hyperions and 2 Baader Zooms in one case (just going to make sure that I handle the cases with care as there's only 2 cube widths between each of them) - building the other case up with my Pans and Deloi - just on a break now, Parked the scope, just had a quick peak at the usual suspects of the early evening for me, M27, M2, M15 - had a crack at the lovely arcing Veil - my skies nothing but light polluted - but its just knowing that the veil for me now is about its highest for me before it disappears over the house - of course - needed the O III in and in .63 mode with the 1100 the Double cluster was just breath taking - I know the SCT in .63 mode is nothing like a good Frac - but very nice indeed - with just a little panning around for the edges of the clusters - oops - sounds like a light report - sorry !!

Just to add that my Maplin case has arrived and I've customised it to fit.

I was expecting the pluck-foam to be in several layers so that I could customise the depth, but no, it went down to the bottom. So I ended up with a bit of judicious work with a sharp knife and back-filling. Otherwise, a decent case.

I wonder if I can fit my HEQ5 mount in something like this. The cardboard box it came in is not going to last. Maybe another addition to the Christmas list!

Have a look on CPC's website. I used their black polypropylene cases for my NEQ6, but you will need foam as well. I bought foam of the harder type as pick and pluck is too soft.
