extension tube on EQ3-2

Recommended Posts

Hi i im thinking of buying an extension tube but was wondering if the extra weight along with the evostar 120 that i have will be to much for the aluminium tripod? i know the tube is advertised as eq5 but i think it should fit the EQ3-2 as well.

The extension tube / pillar extension is quite heavy and the aluminum tripod is probably at it's limit with the Evostar 120 anyway. I'd be thinking about putting a sturdier tripod under there before adding the extension.

The aluminum tripod won't actually break but the additional mount height above it with the extension in place is going to magnify the vibrations I fear.

This is the pier extension for Orion's SkyView Pro, an EQ5-class equatorial... http://www.telescope.com/Mounts-Tripods/Mount-Tripod-Accessories/Orion-SkyView-Pro-Telescope-Mount-Extension/pc/-1/c/2/sc/38/p/7393.uts

I had purchased the 16" extension for my Celestron CG-4, an EQ3-class equatorial, and it fits perfectly...

However, as I had stated elsewhere, I'm considering halving it to 8".
