Dew shield for 100d

I have found that I always get a lot of dew forming on the lens of my DSLR, would a lens hood work similarly to dew shields as they extend it forwards a bit? Also they will act like a light shield so will it be useful? Thanks

I have used a black plastic flower pot, cut the bottom off. Cut the along the side. Fit it over the lens and hold with a rubber band. The flare of the flower pot means it does not encroach into the lens path. I don't get any stray light pollution now hitting the lens and for the amount of time I am outside (up to two hours) I get no dew forming on the lens and it cost me nothing.
