Accommodating Baader Filter Slides

One of the better accessories I have is my Baader Filter Slide system! :)

But then, every filter you have, ends up needing a slide to accommodate it.

Telescope service sell plastic boxes for these, but I envisaged something

a bit more space-saving and easier / more rapid to access!

I pondered old floppy disk boxes... making some structure from metal -

But sadly I have no workshop. Then I remembered "wood technology"!  :D

The main trick is to find some square dowel of thickness *just* greater

than the body of the filter slide! I use three-ply for the basic structure.

I bought the M4 screwed steel rods (plus nuts & washers) via Ebay. ;)

If you only have minimalist tools (skills!) just TRY to saw / drill things as

accurately as you can? Assemble the whole thing, then rub it down with

coarse (then finer) sand paper on a hard surface (E.G. a tiled floor).

Most of the "random errors" happily disappear during this process... :)

A lot of DUST is created, so I then wiped down all pieces with a rag

and white spirit. I applied a couple of layers of "varnish" as a sealant.

I ended up putting the inserts in an air tight plastic food container. But I

suppose, if you fancy yourself as a budding *cabinet maker*, you can

continue in this vein? Who knows, impress a future Arthur Negus... :p
