New to the CG5-GT

Recommended Posts

After looking on this forum for a good equatorial mount, to start improving my astrophotography, I bought a CG5-GT off a nice chap in Grantham and now I want to upgrade my scope - my starter Skywatcher Explorer SupaTrak 130P doesn't really maximise the mount's potential!

I have a Nikon D7100 for the imaging (and an MS webcam that I modified).  I am looking at getting a catadioptic, as I want it to be portable and compact - my A1 doesn't have that much space and my home is fairly light polluted, so happy to travel!

I was wondering what you folks recommended for a good scope.

Budget isn't my constraining factor, although I was imagining £300-£500 second hand for scope only (then add a few accessories).

I was particularly concerned that I didn't want to get carried away with myself and end up with a rig too heavy for my new mount!

Not sure about auto-guiding yet - probably still beyond my expertise - but if its a factor in the weight debate, then should probably leave room for this also...?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jon
