MEADE 8" LX5

You don't see those Meade's very often! Nice looking gear - what year did that come out of?

I would guess you may have heard of Dr. Clay Sherrod? He's a worldwide-known expert in the Meade LX-series telescopes. In case you haven't, I'm tossing you a link. You need to join & await approval if you wish to post questions to him & the group. This is done to prevent 'spam-bots' from overrunning the place. He's often to be found answering questions in the LX-related Yahoo astronomy groups. Here's his site:

Glad to see your scopes. They look very well tended.

Clear skies,

Dave

The Meade SCT makes for a nice visual scope, but do you really need such a large finder? If you do then I suggest you put a couterweight on the underside of the OTA towards the front - your motors will thank you for it :-)  Personally I found a 32mm Plossl offered a plenty wide field to act as a finder in the main scope. Anyway, enjoy it!
