Gifted a Celeron Scope w/ unattached lens

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to receive a used 130SLT but it came with the Collimation screws and attachment screws for the lens in a pouch and the lens is rattling loose inside the optical tube. I was trying to find instructions for reattaching the lens but haven't had any luck. I assume I'm going to have to take apart the actual body of the scope in order to do so.

Celestron support actually wrote me back with an "Ouch!" and recommended I look here.

Any advice?

At the bottom of the OTA tube there should be four black cross point screws, which will release the rear cell and allow you to reach inside and carefully remove the mirror.     It should then be possible to rebuild the mirror rear cell and mirror cell before refitting to the scope.

This is an easy fix if the mirror is not damaged.

Remove the bottom end of the scope as per the above post and then remove mirror.

Use the screws in the pouch to refix in position.

15 minute job.

You will need to collimate it to get it working but that is quite simple too.

Put thw scioe together and then sesrch for astro baby collimation guide.

Yup.  I don't think it should be hard at all.  The pairs of holes have one screw that pulls the mirror back against the pressure of the spring (I think that will be the one that goes in the large hole) and the other pushes the mirror away.  Between the two they fix the mirror in position at each of the three points.

I'd hope it's fairly obvious which screw goes through which hole :)
