Tonight l decided to have my first go at astrophotography , l was just trying a few different settings to capture some stars . l took a few shots in different directions , this one was towards the east and the moon had just come up above the bungalow next door. Have l captured a moon dog ?. post-36303-0-98075000-1443561446.jpg

I think that might be a lens flair (Internal reflection within the camera lens).

In my experience, but I am happy to be corrected, moon and sundogs are usually directly above, below, left and right. 90 degrees apart (you can have anything from 1 to all four).

I've never seen one at a different angle before.

Cheers

Not sure what camera/lens was in use but from years of reviewing photos (for claims of UFOs) that's a lens flare.  As Ant advised, sun/moon dogs occur at 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees around the light source, and  on the 22 degree halo circle

Does look like lens flare and can be checked at the time by shooting at different zoom settings or moving the bright source to a different position. Source and flare are usually diametrically opposed in the frame.

I was wondering what that is to the upper right? Looks like a string a pearls....a contrail? I've seen some really bizzare colors in clouds around sunset but they were made by contrails. Could it be something in the vapor trails leaving strange looking formations? Just a thought.
