gonzostar
As an absolute beginner to DSS. How do get get from TFF file to jpeg? So we can have a giggle at my first attempt at m31!CheersDean
Jonk
Depends on the software you have - if you're on windows, paint.net (free) should be able to do this.Open the .tiff, 'save as' .jpg.Not sure about Linux or MacOs.

JamesF
It's probably worth looking at saving to PNG too. JPEGs don't always come out too well once uploaded to the forum.James

Pete Presland
I also recommend PNG that are lossless and smaller than TIFF's. No problem posting them on here either. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk

Phillyo
Just a thought, if you're taking the stacked image from DSS straight from TIFF format to Jpeg, you won't be seeing what's really there. Once the image is stacked in DSS you generally need to apply some curve and level stretching to reveal the data correctly.I would recommend opening the stacked TIFF file from DSS in The GIMP (free) and applying some curves and levels stretching before saving to Jpeg (or PNG preferably as people have already stated) and uploading to here You'll be surprised what's hidden in the data.Phil
gonzostar
Thanks for that Phil. Hopefully can get some shots in next couple of days once the moon is nearly out of the way!
gonzostar
Well done it. My first meaning full attempt using the very good advice received. Although still trying to get used to DSS This is supposed to be NGC 6946 Taken with stacks upto just 10 mins. Maybe i should use more next time? gonzostar
Not sure why it turned out green sky though!
happy-kat
You got a stacked image, yey. Brilliant.Green can be removed with a plugin called hasta la vista green which although a Photoshop plugin works in paintshop pro as well. Perhaps you can remove it by hand but I am not good yet with colour manipulation.Just thought why are you using TIFF files. Does your camera have raw mode capability? pipnina
Of the free programs, GIMP 2.9 is the best hands down. As far as paid software goes... I think PixInsight + Photoshop is the software of choice.
