Thalestris24
Just wondered if anyone has tried the zwo asi224mc (or other imx224 camera) for guiding? Even though it's colour, the reviews I've seen suggest it might be quite good.ThanksLouise
big bedroom
I don't have that model but I use the older ZWO120mc colour for guiding with a finder scope and haven't had any problems with it at all. I think the newer one has the same size sensor and pixels but with better sensitivity so should work fine.

It's sold as more of a planetary camera as it's colour and has good near-IR sensitivity - http://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/products/usb-3-0/asi224mc/.It looks like it might be similar in sensitivity to the qhy5l-ii mono without the noise though the cooled minicam5s should be a lot less noisier than the uncooled version - at a price! JamesF
There's a cooled version of the ASI224MC in the works as far as I'm aware. No idea what the price will be like however.James

The 1224 has been on loan to a friend until the end of this week, who has been using it as a planetary camera . If you are prepared to wait a fortnight or so (weather has been appalling here, )I will test it as a guider for you.....CheersGary(Geelong, Australia)

I had just thought it might be worth getting one instead of another qhy5l-ii mono. However, I have a qhy on order now.ThanksLouise
