Slippery slope or gateway drug.

After lurking around for a but, I guess it's time to introduce myself a bit.

Well, after many years of absence from astronomy I've started to get back into it.
Last November I got a Nexstar 6SE for an early birthday present. Just a great gateway drug for the hobby. My grandchilder and I spent a lot of time looking at all sorts of things during the winter and I even managed to grab a few pictures. I hesitate to call them photographs but at least you can make out what the subject is a bit. I guess that's what has started me down the slippery slope. Needing a better mount, apature envy and a litanty of all the other terible sins of this habby are starting to kick in.
So, it was time for a plan or at least a start of one.
First was a new mount so I got the SW AZ-EQ6 as it will be at least a bit future proof for me. Next will be building a small observatory probably 6ftx6ft and 4ft (and a bit) high with a roll off roof. That project will start a few weeks I hope.
Eventually, larger OTA, then larger mount for a larger OTA and associated bits and bobs to go with everything and the never endung slippery slope goes on and on. Fortunately, no shortage of laptops, tablets, desktops etc. around here so that's one thing solved at least until I need a supercomputer.
A long time ago I started to build a 6 inch cass f4. I still have the mirror, secondary, mirror cell and spider around somewhere.  My have to resurrect that project at some time too. :-)
So for me astronomy is a slippery slope to adiction and my gateway drug of choice was the 6SE.
Anyways, it's going to be an interesting time and I'm looking forward to everything. Time to renew my membership in the RACS I guess.
Located South-east of Edmonton Alberta. Light pollution isn't too bad but it doesn't get dark here for 2 to 3 months in the summer.

Thanks all for the comments on the pics. I've got a long way to go, but one step at a time....

Soon it will get dark early enough that I can get out and play some more.

Yes the 6SE is a great scope. It will go to my granddaughter when I get a larger OTA

James, I really understand your view from a tractor. Nothing like a hot summer night sitting on the tractor with a cold one and marvelling at the wonders above.

Hi Ken and welcome to SGL, you have certainly set your stall out with what you envisage for the future, you have made a good start with your images, well done. Help and guidance is here in abundance on the forum, just post in the relevant section for help, if you need it. Enjoy your Astronomy :)

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. Now I just need some clear skies. Probably clear up when the temperature gets down to -25 or so.

I signed up for a session on imaging with Alan Dyer in Oct. So that should be very interesting.

Lots to learn so I'm really looking forward to the future. Especially when I get 'help' from the grandkids. Everything takes a bit longer but is a lot more fun with them.
