Skywatcher 150p on Adv GT Mount - for imaging?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for my first foray into scopes and astrophotography (other than a few moon shots with my Canon).

I was thinking of a used mount and OTA to get it somewhere near affordable, bearing in mind other equipment that I will probably need as I get further along the line.

I have seen a used Celestron Adv GT Mount for sale, and I was thinking of combining that with a Skywatcher 150p. I like the look of the 200 but where I live the light pollution is quite bad, but I have lots of friends out and about in rural areas around the country so portability (to some extent) is a factor.

I haven’t made up my mind about quite what kind of imaging I want to concentrate on yet – so to some extent I want to ‘hedge my bets’ if thats possible.

What do people think of this mount/scope/combination?

Thanks in advance.

I have the old cg5 on the 2inch tripod and for visual with the 200p it's fine so using the 150 on similar mount should be ok many people on here use a similar combination with good results.

Thanks triton1 - complete newbie at this is the CG5 comparable to the Adv GT Mount I am looking at?

I've recently got a 150pds as my first scope and been testing things out, produces wonderful images on a stable mount (HEQ5). The explorer 200p weights near enough 8.8kg so its quite hefty to carry around places

abodee2 thats good to hear about the 150 - I was worried about going as big as the 200 for weight and portability.

Forgot to ask what kind of imaging are ou doing - the DSLR or CCD route? Interested about achieving focus with my Canon 650D on the 150.
