Animation of the Sun's Surface

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone:

I have created animations of the sun's chromosphere using Photoshop. The problem is that the gif files I generate through photoshop are high quality but take up a lot of space (13-17MB). Not useful for practical purposes. I tried to export to quicktime movies using photoshop but that feature does not seem to be working in my version (CS5). I also tried to convert gifs to avi or mp2 through assorted programs, including online conversion programs, but they are rendered as very low quality, as you can see below. Any ideas about this? I would really appreciate any insights as to how I can retain most of the quality but with fewer MBs. Simply reducing the size does not do it justice.

Thanks,

-Charles

One of the key problems with this kind of thing is that there is a trade-off between quality and size. The moment you compress a lot, quality will suffer. Regarding programs to create or convert solar animations: ImPPG has animation/alignment options that work well, and PIPP can produce various types of AVI output. Hope this helps.
