Hello again scopers

As you can see there is no more room in my Maplins case so its time to build a new one. I think it would be nice to make the new one out of the same materials as my new 20 inch Dob i made. Thankfully i have some 12mm and 6mm Birch plywood in my workshop left over from other projects. so i just need to purchase some ironmongery and the project will begin. Here are some plans i draw up using Google Sketchup.  I think i will use dove tails on the corners to match my Dob. Also im thinking of having 2 draws that slide in and out of the sides also storage in the lid for my 8.4 inch Samsung tablet that i use for Star maps and Logs. I got some inspiration for the design from Wood wonders Field Cases.  Very nice carved Eyepiece cases. http://www.wood-wonders.com/Eyepiece.htm

As nice as the Wood Wonder cases are, I would disagree with putting a handle on top. If handles are put on the sides, then a two handed carry is necessary, so there is no chance of the contents falling out because the latch was not engaged properly; food for thought.

Hi Mike

Thats a good point.  I have a case that ive been using for about 6 years which has a handle on the top and have not had any mishaps as of yet. But i like  your thinking. I may have to redesign.

The 'Drawers' of your design remind me of the 'Trays' on my fishing boxes. They latch onto the sides of the fishing box, externally,  when in use,  with the lid/seat down and locked,  and  latch internally when stored. Depending on your skills, that may be a simpler option, it would for me!

I have some 15 EPs at present, so I may have to consider something bigger in the not too distant future.

I would also like a bigger storage rack on the Dob?  that may come first!
