Hi Folks

Trying out Windows 10 64bit on an oldish laptop before committing it to my observatory laptop and keep getting this yellow exclamation mark in device manager next to the prolific/usb connection -

and of course it fails to connect to my EQ6 mount. Latest Ascom installed and I have the Hitecastro usb EQ direct interface and it works fine in Windows 7. I`ve tried the latest PL2303 driver off the Hitec web site but it still fails to connect to the mount and I`ve tried many different com ports but still no connection, Could there be some conflict with Windows 10 and Eqmod at all ?. Running out of ideas and maybe keep the obs lappy on Win 7 for now.

cheers

Steve

I doubt we've heard the last about problems with the Prolific drivers. Some months back there was a warning issued by Prolific that stated they were sniffing around the web for forgeries of their drivers. Seems a slew of counterfeit ones were pouring out of China. And they were sick and tired of this. So they threatened to release some unspecified bug to find and destroy the things. So if anyone out there finds what they thought was a Prolific PL2303 driver smoldering and emitting smoke - you know what happened.

kaBOOM!!

Its here on the FLO web site http://www.firstlightoptics.com/astronomy-cables-leads-accessories/hitecastro-eqdir-adapter.html

Just follow the Windows 8 instructions also as its a bit fiddly deleteing stuff but you get there.

Guys/Gals

I've just updated my laptop to windows 10 and found the following worked for me...

I followed the instructions on FLO's website. Uninstalled the driver, changed the driver auto-update settings, installed the earlier version Prolific driver.

When I plugged in my mount the driver installed but was showing an exclamation mark in device manager. So I uninstalled the device driver, left the mount plugged in and rebooted the laptop.

It looks like win 10 saw the device plugged in and installed the correct Prolific driver on restart.

All ok now.
