Best CCD for WO GT81

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked many times for different scopes but I can't seem to find one on the GT81 by William optics. I'm looking to upgrade my HX916 to a bigger/newer chip. I don't want to spend over £1000 as I'll be saving for it over a few months. I'll buy second hand no problem as long as it's obviously in good shape. What would be the best camera for me? I'll mainly be imaging in NB so obviously want a good peak in the Ha range. What would you guys recommend and what should I look for in a camera for my specs?

Also, I'll probably be changing my flattener to a 0.8x reducer flattener to make my system F4.75 so pretty fast.

Thanks in advance.

I would have said the Atik 420 or 320.

Pixel size is reasonable for that focal length, chip is about 7.1x5.3mm.

The 450 may be better/nicer but you are looking at about £1400 for one of them and the 428 (another £100). Unless there is an offer on them or you get one used.

Cheers ronin. I'll have a look at the specs. What "/pixel should I be looking for

How big is the corrected circle of the final optical system? Since NB targets are emission nebulae they can be pretty big and getting as much of them onto the chip as possible would be a priority for me. Think of the Veil, the NAM and Pelican, the Sadr region, The Cone, the Heart and Soul, Simeis 147...  These are big. Going for a small sensor would be a big decision, if you like.

hi olly

only just saw your post, i have no idea what the corrected circle is, or how to work it out. I know a bigger chip would be beneficial, but i simply can't afford the exotics at the moment

cheers
