First stacking trial of the Moon

Recommended Posts

Wow!! Love the work you did with my photo Bizibuilder :D

Only just got PS & have an awful lot to learn. Thought I'd leave it natural after the process as love how Luna changes colour dependant on it's position & how the light looks to us here on our tiny spec in the cosmos.
Thanks for your time & input all. ;)

What a coincidence. I have just taken some photos of the moon on my wife's DSLR and I processed eight using Registax 6 for the first time. I have to say the results were a little dissappointing and I processed one image without Registax just using Photoshop, which I'm a little familar with, and the result was a little more pleasing. Is Registax best for planets or is Deep Sky Stacker better?

I'd normally prefer AutoStakkert!2 over Registax for processing solar system images, but I've not had a great deal of success trying to use it to process full disc lunar and solar images, so I revert to Registax 6 for that.

DSS is for deep sky stuff, as the name suggests.

I'm afraid I don't, really.  Everything is all a bit touchy-feely with Registax.  Have you seen the walkthrough I posted some time back for full disc lunar images?  That might help a bit.

James, Sorry - a second request. I see you have an HEQ5 Pro.  I thinking of getting one and I'm trying to get some opinions. Don't worry, I'm not a lawyer.....

I think it's an excellent mount for the money.  I'm very happy with mine.  It even goes on holiday with us when we drive over to France.

It's not man enough for, say, my C9.25, really, and for DSO imaging you'd want to make sure you weren't overloading it (and accept that at some point you're going to have to start guiding), but it's a really big step up from the smaller mounts.

I'd not take just my word for it though.  If you're seriously considering it then I'd post a separate thread explaining what you plan for it in a bit more detail.

I used this tutorial as a basis for processing my image. I just separated the wheat & the chaff from the tutorial to get the desired effect i wanted. I remember concentrating on the Moon by boxing it (how i did that I don't remember, sorry). It then seemed to concentrate on just that area. I hope this helps you out.
