mounting plate troubles

Hi there, I've recently been making my own pier as i want to try and get into astrophotography. I've gone for the typical brick veneer with a concrete column in the middle. My only problem is I'm getting confused with the mounting plate. A lot of plates i see are 2 steel plates with bolts holding them apart so you can attach the mount etc, but I've also read that having this set-up means your overall pier setup loses its stability and becomes more prone to vibration as you're bypassing the main strong structure and relying on 3 small columns (the bolts) to support the mount. Does this actually cause a substantial problem when doing astrophotography? Im also a complete novice at astronomy so my knowledge is pretty limited as I'm sure my ability to shoot AP is also! cheers guys

The stud  method is almost unavoidable if you have an EQ mount that is attached from below.

It's suitability for imaging depends on your mount and OTA.

For an EQ5 and an 80mm F5 Refractor, three or four 12mm studs may suffice, for an EQ8 and 200mm Newtonian then 20-24mm is more like it.
