The image is not blurred but seems to be a split image, but not a image in each eye piece if you know what I mean.

Adjusting the eyepiece width makes no difference.

Sounds like a problem with the bins.

If the collimation is off, a double image is seen.

Inexpensive bins will cost more to repair than a new replacement. Maybe worth it for top end bins.

Some bins can be user collimated http://www.cloudynights.com/page/articles/cat/articles/how-to/%E2%80%9Ccollimating%E2%80%9D-binoculars-r408but only if the owner is prepared for the possibility of making things worse.

Of course, as you are not the owner, let them decide what option to take.
