Seeing double

Hi all,

 I'm seeing a double image through 13x70 binoculars.

 Is there a fault with them or are my old,bitter and twisted eyes to blame?

Sounds like collimation issues. Perhaps took a drop?

Presumably you mean two images, one left and one right, rather than a blurry image. Have you adjusted the bins to the distance pupil to pupil?

lol at a distant object in day light. If you have a double image, push the obctive lenses closer together while viewing the object. Can you achieve a single image ?

The image is not blurred but seems to be a split image, but not a image in each eye piece if you know what I mean.

Adjusting the eyepiece width makes no difference.

Sounds like a problem with the bins.

If the collimation is off, a double image is seen.

Inexpensive bins will cost more to repair than a new replacement. Maybe worth it for top end bins.

Some bins can be user collimated http://www.cloudynights.com/page/articles/cat/articles/how-to/%E2%80%9Ccollimating%E2%80%9D-binoculars-r408but only if the owner is prepared for the possibility of making things worse.

Of course, as you are not the owner, let them decide what option to take.

Just had a look through a different pair and have no problem with the image.

Re 'double images' in bins: the cliched ' through bins view' that you see in films and T.V. always makes me laugh! Saw it again ,just the other night
